Happy Sunday all! Amanda here today to take an in depth look at Paper piecing.
I get asked frequently ‘what is Paper piecing?’ When I first started stamping I was convinced that every image had to be colored, no questions asked… Well I am here to tell you that’s just not true.
It’s time to do away with thinking ‘inside the box’ and get out of our comfort zone just a little. There are so many things you can do with stamped images and one of them just happens to be my favorite, Paper Piecing.
So lets answer that question.. some of you maybe asking ‘what is the fuss all about?’ Well, Paper piecing gives your images a new life that coloring can’t like shapes, stripes, and fun funky Images. Paper piecing Angie Girls is what we are going to look at today. Making these outfits for these fabulous ladies makes me really wish I could just go buy them for myself somewhere.
First up is the Angie girl: Tricia Girl
She has lots of items to piece together and is a Favorite at Unity. So lets get started- here is a list of a few things you are going to need:
- Fussy cutting scissors
- Black Ink
- Cutting mat and a craft knife (for those hard to get at places)
- Copic markers (or what every you like to color with)
- Gina Marie Design Dies
- Glue
- Paper
First off- I always pick out my papers. I want them to flow nicely with each other so I try to pick papers from the same pack just so they don’t clash.
Next I use my MISTI and I stamp on all the papers right away- it saves time.
The first time I did this I thought ‘this is not going to work’ but it does.
The next step is to fussy cut out her outfit. This part takes the most time for me because I like to get right to the black line. I don’t leave any of it hanging off because I wan’t it to look just like a paper doll when I am done.
When all the parts are cut out then you can start assembling it on the main background. For me that’s on white paper and I already colored her hair and skin with Copic Markers- Skin tone YR00, E11 & for her Hair E33, E15, E37, & just a little of E29
Paper piecing is so fun! It gives so much more to the image then just coloring.
This is the Planner Girl Tell A Story
Such a fun new Planner Girl. I used Sizzix Doilies behind a wooden Picture frame. The little plastic camera is from Paper Studio.
Such a cute new addition to the Planner girl line!
The next one I want to show you today is Aleah Girl. I chose to Put her on Pattern paper to really make her POP! This sentiment really speaks to me… Unity has such wonderful Sentiments!
Here is just one more tip, after I fussy cut all my parts I take a black marker and I go around all the edges of the papers so you can’t see the cuts, it really makes it look better. 😉 Here is just one more card. Its the girl from February KOTM. If you’re not a member your going to want to become one. It’s one of the best memberships.
I so badly want this outfit! But that’s it – Paper Piecing is such a fun way to add to your already beautiful cards.
I hope you all enjoyed this little paper piecing today ‘how-to’ and give it a try. If you do try it out please make sure you share on the Unity Show and Tell page.
But until next Sunday catch me in The Unity Show and Tell!
