Stamping and Embossing a Watercolor Background

February 28, 2018 - by Gaylynn

Stamping and Embossing a Watercolor Background

Hello, it’s Gaylynn here with my fourth installment of my Watercolor Wednesday series, showing how to incorporate stamping over a watercolor background, here on the Unity blog.

Stamping a watercolor background is another way to create watercolor projects.  For today’s project, I created a gift tag with a leftover watercolor section from last week’s Brusho Crystal Colors post.  This is showing another beautiful way to create with watercolor along with stamping.

Loving Today

Sentiment:  Today only happens once…  Let’s make it amazing.

An easy way to create card or tag project backgrounds is to watercolor onto a larger sheet of watercolor paper.  Using most any type of watercolor in different colors , the possibilities and color combinations are endless.  I use excess pieces for smaller creations like gift tags and border trims.  In addition, I made a video tutorial for this tag project showing you how to use stamping with a dry watercolor background.  It includes instructions along the way throughout the video, however, a written process follows below.

Apply any type of watercolor onto watercolor paper to make a background. Dry completely.  In my case, I used leftover watercolor sections from a previous project.  This is a good way to make gift tags or trimmings.

Use a powder tool before stamping to prevent stray embossing powder. I use one by EK Success.  Stamp with watermark ink like VersaMark onto a dry watercolor background.

I used white embossing powder and then heat set the frame image. For the sentiment, stamp or
emboss it in black.

Trim around your image or die-cut the image panel.

Adhere it to a tag base or to a card, along with sequins and ribbon.

Here is another look at my watercolor gift tag.

Comment and tag me on the Unity facebook page posts regarding this project.  I look forward to your feedback.

Also, we would love to see what you make with this technique.  Share your project on the Unity Show and Tell facebook page.  Request to join there, if you haven’t already done so.
