Tea Dye Watercolor Card

March 28, 2018 - by Gaylynn

Tea Dye Watercolor Card

Hello, it’s Gaylynn here with another installment of my Watercolor Wednesday series.  I will show a way to use brewed tea for tea dye watercolor, along with stamping.

For today’s project, I created a vintage style handmade card with brewed teas used as tea dye watercolor, along with stamping.

Sentiment:  Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters.

I made a video tutorial for this vintage inspirational card, showing you a way to use brewed tea with stamping.  It includes instructions along the way throughout the video, however, a written process follows below.

(See also the video tutorial for this project.)

Brew two tea bags for watercolor.  I used dark & lighter strength black teas.  Use very little hot water.

Use watercolor paper.  Heat emboss a stamped script panel, in white.  Stamp an image panel in waterproof ink.

Using the darker tea, watercolor the chair.  Dry between layers.  Adding layers of tea darkens areas.

Using the lighter tea, accent the chair and its background highlights.

Watercolor the embossed panel with the lighter tea.  Dry.  Then add a little of the darker tea.  Dry.

For the flower color, I used  Staedtler Triplus Fineliner colored pens.

Make vintage lace by adding tea watercolor, then dry.  I used both teas. Assemble the card.

Here is another look at my vintage tea dye watercolor card.
