Hello, it’s Gaylynn here with another installment of my Watercolor Wednesday series. Today, I am sharing an easy way to make an ombre watercolor card background.
For today’s project, I created an ombre watercolor background for a stamped watercolor flower card.
Sentiment: Forever.
This was designed as a wedding, engagement or anniversary card.

I made a video tutorial for this ombre watercolor background card. It includes instructions along the way throughout the video, however, a written process follows below.

(See also the video tutorial for this project.)
First, pre-stamp and then watercolor a focal image. I used a flower stamp. Die-cut, punch or trim an overlay panel.
On watercolor paper, apply strips of water only. Then apply dabs of one color, lightly smooth out the color.
Add a second color. I recommend adding water to the paper first, then adding color. It flows better. Gently smooth out color.
Don’t overlook your white watercolor. I use it often to make new colors. For the gray, I added black to white and mixed it to one side of the tray.
Damp dry and then add a second layer of color, if you want.
Finally, blot puddles then heat set. Add an overlay panel (optional) and a focal image. Assemble.
Here is another look at my card.

Catch me next Wednesday with a new project for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday.
Have a lovely day.
