Good morning! Heather here to show you a fun way to use a gorgeous Unity Background stamp with Distress Oxide inks to get these fun backgrounds! I had so much fun with this – so quick and easy – and can’t wait to try more color combos! The background stamp I used is simply called Ikat – I love how it has a bit of imperfection that makes it work so well for this technique!
Here is my video showing how to create this look:
I love the soft look of distress oxides – so smooth and almost chalky, but still such vibrant colors! At the time I was making the video, I had no plan on what to do with these backgrounds – but I had these images and sentiments already prepped on vellum – and they seemed a perfect simple fit! I trimmed each one down then attached at the top with my sewing machine, so the bottom is hanging free. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can attach them with a bit of good adhesive, then disguise it with sequins, washi tape, buttons, or bows.
Here is a closer look at each card – this first one uses the Phyllis Harris Today with You stamp set:
This card uses Patience and Love:
And finally, this one uses Cuddlebug Sea Turtles:
Which color combo or image is your favorite? Would love to see what combos you try!
Here is a bonus card – showing another way I used one of these backgrounds. This was actually the first one I made when I was trying out the idea in my head before I made a video!
For this card, I allowed the background to dry, then used my MISTI to stamp the lovely image and sentiment from the April 2018 Sentiment Kit – Grow in Grace over the top. It felt like the swan was too hard to see, so I stamped it again on white cardstock, fussy cut out, and paper pieced it on the card front.
I trimmed off the sides slightly, then mounted on a soft blue cardbase for this one. I can’t decide which way I enjoyed using this background more! Which do you prefer?
Thanks for stopping by today! Have a wonderful day!
