Lovely Sympathy Card + Distress Ink Watercolor

September 15, 2018 - by Lisa Arana

Lovely Sympathy Card + Distress Ink Watercolor

Hello, Lisa Arana here to share another lovely card to get your sentiment inspiration going. So excited to share a watercolored card using Distress Inks and a beautiful sentiment kit.

Featured Stamp Kit

There is No Reason This is one of my newer sentiment kits featuring a bundle of mums. I just love a beautiful fall mum. Lots of rich reds, yellows, and oranges. I’ve paired it with lots of great sentiments: friendship, birthday, feeling grateful, thankful and loved. I like to have a variety of occasions in each kit so it can be used over and over again. Today, I’m pairing those beautiful blooms with the sympathy saying.

Assemble This! Video

I’ve created a quick video tutorial on how this card was made. You can watch it below or on Youtube.

The Project

The Details

The colors for this are on the edge of summer and fall. Still light and bright like summer, but just a hint of the oranges and reds to come. There are 3 blooms to color and I choose my loyal Distress inks for my watercolors. It is a simple yet elegant design meant to let those blooms be the star of the show. I love how the die cut panel is popped up over the black cardstock. It allows those colors to really look vibrant. In the end, I decided to keep it really simple and just add a bit of sparkle with a Wink of Stella glitter pen and some clear Nuvo Drops. It mimics the look of dew and that bit of sparkle in the morning.

The Steps

Here are the steps to recreate this card:
  1. Cover a standard size A2 cardbase with black cardstock.
  2. Stamp image and sentiment on heavy white cardstock (I’m using Neenah 110# cardstock) in a waterproof ink (like Gina K Amalgam ink). Since I’m keeping the water amount low, cardstock will work. Too much water will curl the paper and maybe make it pill up. You can also use watercolor paper, this will allow you more freedom with the amount of water you use.
  3. Watercolor image with Distress inks and a water brush. Allow to dry completely before die cutting the scallop panel.
  4. Pop up the panel on the cardbase using foam adhesive.
  5. Paint on glitter using a Wink of Stella glitter brush pen.
  6. Squeeze some Nuvo Drops onto your card. Hold the bottle perpendicular to the paper and squeeze until you reach the size you like. Lift the tip of the bottle straight up. You can tap the back of the card gently to help the tops settle a bit and then as the drops dry they will also self-level into a nice dome. Colder drops will tend to create a “kiss” top, you can hold the bottle in your hand a bit to warm them up.
Thanks for joining me today. I hope you are inspired by today’s project. If you create something, I’d love to see. Join us in the Unity Show & Tell Facebook group to share your card and tag me.
