Background watercolor card with stamping.

April 10, 2019 - by Gaylynn

Background watercolor card with stamping.

Hi, it’s Gaylynn here with another installment of my Watercolor Wednesday series.  This is a mixed media style card using background watercolor along with stamping.

This card was made by stamping the background, adding background watercolor and then stamping again with the focal image.  I chose a Spring mixed media style with a butterfly on watercolor and a lace trim.

Sentiment:
Home is wherever you are.  Happy Easter

For this card, I stamped only the perimeter of the lace background.  Then, I added layers of watercolor towards the center.  The butterfly was stamped in two shades for a highlighted look.  The sentiment was combined for use as an Easter card.

Unity Stamp Co. product used:
Gather Love
Lace
Mini Misti

Background Watercolor Card with Stamping
By Gaylynn Martling for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday
(See also the video tutorial for this project.)

Begin by stamping the sentiment onto regular cardstock.  Then stamp the background lace onto watercolor paper with waterproof ink.
I inked the lace around the background perimeter.  Then I placed the watercolor paper on top of the stamp to pick up ink from the lace stamp.
Heat set or allow the background to dry.
I added water to the panel.  Then I added one color of Altenew watercolor.  I used several layers of that color and then heat set.
Once dry, I stamped the butterfly, using two ink colors and the Mini Misti tool.
Ranger archival ink pads used:  Sienna, Monarch Orange and Pale Ochre.
I layered everything onto the card base and embellished to finish.

Here is another look.

I made a quick video tutorial for this project.

Catch me next Wednesday with a new project for Unity’s Watercolor Wednesday.
Thanks so much for visiting.
