Welcome back for the fourth challenge of August 2019! This time, we are going to be doing a Drip, Drop, Flick Challenge. Its time to get messy and play with all your inks, watercolors, and art crayons and pair them with all kinds of amazing Unity Stamp Company red rubber goodness.
Challenge Techniques: Drips, Drops, Flicks
Drips
The first sample uses a technique of creating drips on the card. You can see a video on one way you can create drips by Crystal Thompson here: Drips. I put Vicki Boutin art crayons on a piece of acetate and created a paint out of them. I then dripped them in a line from the point under the book stamp called “Your Life Is Your Story.” This easy technique adds such visual interest into a card. I topped it off with a few flicks on the top of the card in black to contrast the bright colors in the bottom.
Drops
The second technique involves creating droplets of color by letting watery pigment fall on the card from a distance. I used “drops” to give this card splashes of color. The embossed butterfly and sentiment are from the kit “You Can & You Will.“
In case you are having trouble visualizing, this is how I created the drops. First, add your preferred pigment to a piece of acetate or plastic near the edge. Make sure it is watery enough to move on the plastic sheet.
Then, let the color flow off the sheet and on to the base from a little distance. The further away from the card the less control you have, but the splashier the droplets will look. If you want bigger droplets, make sure you have more water and color. Those droplets kind of look like a bit crime scene in red, but it could become something cool.
Flicks
The final sample uses a very common technique called flicking. If you want to add little sprays or fine splatters, you’ll want to try this. It adds texture and visual interest to the backgrounds. Check out this super short video by Crystal Thompson on adding splatters. I used the splatters with the kit “Here’s To Love and Friends” with the sentiment from “No Time For Guilt.“
