Stencil Stash Challenge

September 19, 2019 - by Shannon Edwards

Stencil Stash Challenge

I’m back, and I’m bringing you such a fun challenge this week.  For this week’s mini-challenge, we’re going back to a crafting basic. That’s right.  Pull out all of your inks, blenders, Unity stamps and stencils, because we are going to get crafty with our stencil stashes.

Stencil Band

The first way to feature a stencil in your work is by creating a masked band of color with your stencil.  For all three examples this week, I used Vicki Boutin stencils.  They are so affordable and beautiful!  This one came from her new Wildflower and Honey collection is honeycomb.  I masked off a band about 2 inches wide.  Then I used a makeup brush with Gina K ink colors Wild Wisteria, Blue Lagoon, and In the Navy.  Then, I embossed a flower from “In My Garden” in white on matching colored paper.  I added a little bit of depth with some Prismacolor pencils.  The sentiment comes from “Here’s to Love and Friends.“

Stencil Masked Background

Kits Used: No Time for Guilt and Your Life Is Your Story

Next, I had to use two of my new favorite kits:  No Time for Guilt and Your Life Is Your Story.  Unity has the best kits for inspiration and thinking of you cards.  I masked off about 3/4″ on all sides of the white card panel.  Then I used another Vicki Boutin stencil that had this amazing foliage to create a green background.  The girl from “No Time for Guilt” just looked so pretty against the background.  Her contemplative look was just right to go with the thought-provoking sentiment.

 Stencil Cut-Out Frame

Finally, I created this adorable card with some inspiration from a Gina K video I found on Instagram.  I lightly stenciled the bottom before die-cutting an oval center.  I thought the birds from “I’m Obsessed Birdies” would be so cute with the central message from “So Grateful.”  Fussy cutting the birdies was the most difficult part of making the whole card.  Honestly, it was so simple.
