Hello everyone. I am so excited to be a guest blogger for Unity for the next 3 months. I’ve got some fun things planned so I hope you will play along.
The Challenge
The first challenge is New Beginnings. I thought since we all make goals in January this was a great way to start off the year and build our card stash at the same time. New Beginnings cards can be just about anything life related. You can make cards for weddings, new babies, new home, new job, new attitudes etc. Just think about any life event that starts a new chapter in someone’s life and make a card that offers congratulations or encouragement.
Inspiration #1
My daughter is expecting her first baby in January so naturally I wanted to make a card to celebrating it. I started with two Unity kits. I used A Mother’s Arms for the image and Kendra Girl for the sentiment. I did some simple water coloring of the image and created a lacy look by stacking two fancy dies together. I wrapped the whole thing with an organza bow.
Inspiration #2
I know that many times a new start means changing how you deal with the challenges of life. The kit You Matter by Graciellie if full of wonderful, encouraging sentiments and a beautiful floral image. I colored the image using Copic R81, R83, and R85 for the flower and YG61 and YG63 for the greenery. I cut a second panel down with a wavy border die and stamped the sentiment on the bottom piece and used it to frame the floral image.
Inspiration #3
I had to include a wedding card as a sample. I used the Kit of the Month from April 2019 Have & Hold for the image and sentiment. I started by stamping the image and adding the sentiment below. I decided to add a vellum veil so I stamped the image again on some Gina K masking paper. I cut out the center of the veil to use as a mask, making sure to cut just inside the outside lines of the veil. I placed some vellum over the image I had left in my Misti and carefully aligned the mask inside the veil. I stamped and fussy cut the veil out and then stamped the image again on another piece of card stock. I colored just the flowers on this one and fussy cut them out as well. I did really simple Copic coloring in my own wedding colors.
I die cut the image with the sentiment with a lacy die and layered the vellum veil and flowers using some glue. I created a background using Delectable border stamped in Distress Oxide Spun Sugar and finished assembling the card.
New Beginnings Challenge
Make any card for a new beginning using one of the many Unity stamp kits. Be sure to post it in the challenge album on the Unity Show and Tell board on Facebook. You will have until the end of January to enter. Enjoy building your stash of cards to have on hand to celebrate and encourage your loved ones in their new beginnings.
