If you have been following my cards this month you have probably noticed that I am trying to use my scraps. Cut out frames, uncolored embossed images and cut out sentiments litter my table. What better way to bring those unused treasures and make it into one stunning card?
I have a slight obsession with this Delectable border background. It’s a perfect stamp for the upcoming celebrations like weddings, Easter and Mother’s Day cards.
This may look like a complicated card but it’s quite simple.
Here is what I did:
White heat emboss one image on watercolor paper. Heat emboss another image on white 110lbs card stock with WOW Primary Dovetail Regular embossing powder. Cut the latter to 4 x 5.25 and adhere to a topfolding 4.25 x 5×5 Neenah Desert Storm (110lbs) card stock base. Set aside.
Die cut 3 frames using stitched rectangle dies from the same Desert Storm card stock. Attach using liquid adhesive to move the frames until they are lined up. The “hey you” sentiment is from Picket Fence Studios. It has a shadow to the words; use vellum for this. I used green metallic card stock for the words. Adhere and set aside.
Now for the middle part. Take the embossed image on water color paper and color with water colors. You can also use Distress Oxides with water for this. I am a poor watercolorist. But a trick I have learned is that if you use two or three shades of the same color and dab it on here and there, you achieve some depth, “accidentally”! Make sure to dry this before the next step.
Use a craft knife and cut out the white center along the leaves and roses. I did not take great care in doing this, but make sure your lines are clean and not jagged. Now, it’s easy after this.
Take your 3 frames you have glued together earlier and position it over the center of the roses. See where you have the most flowers inside the frame and glue the frame to the roses. Following the outside line of the frame, cut off the excess paper. To add some shine to the middle, use acetate, or even vellum. This acetate already had some silver foiled dots on it, so BONUS! Adhere the acetate to the back of your frame. Cut along the outside of the frame and trim the acetate. This also gives some stability to the flowers.
Finally, add your sentiment. I used Therm-o-web Tape Runner XL Permanent on the back of the vellum. This tape does not leave sticky marks on vellum or acetate! Adhere all this to the top folding card with strong double sided tape.
