If you haven”t yet had a chance to enter the monthly Unity challenge, you have until November 4th to get your entry in for a chance at winning some Unity prizes! This month our challenge is Warm Red/ Cool Blue, a starting point for creating your own complete color palette!! I created this tag as an example of how these colors could be combined with white, pink, cream/tan and orange!
To begin this project, I started off with the new Wings of Peace Unity kit and a cream colored tag I received from Unity as a freebie! I also pulled out my Tim Holtz (TH) Speckled Egg and Crackling Campfire collections and a Webster’s Pages 6×6 pad.
I applied Vicki Boutin gesso to the tag first and then used my gel to add carefully torn off bits of paper to the tag. I wanted these bits to show through so I was careful when applying color to use a wet wipe to clear off some of those bits a little. I used white gesso and white, red and blue paints to add a little color. I then used the kit to start stamping around the sides of the tag with the oxide inks.
I used a stencil to add white modeling paste leaves around the sides too. To make those leaves stand out, I used the oxides again and a tan pen.
Finally, on separate paper, I stamped and embossed the sentiment, leaves and butterflies using the TH inks and powders. I added a little color to one and fussy cut them out. I did add some more embossed images directly to the tag. I found a couple flower ephemera in my stash that I thought could be used to set off the butterflies. To finish the tag, I added ribbons and enamel dots.
Hope this inspires you to try your hand at the challenge and attempt using one of the tags you may have received! They are so fun to play with and you end up with a little personal piece of art work!
