Watercolor Roses – Fresh Start With Florals Challenge

January 14, 2021 - by Sandhya Iyer

Watercolor Roses – Fresh Start With Florals Challenge

Hello and welcome back! This is Sandhya of Sanju’s Creations and today I am bringing you some fresh inspiration for the florals challenge I am currently hosting on the Unity Show and Tell Facebook Page. I chose to watercolor the gorgeous roses from this month’s sentiment kit – Hello Fresh Start. This set is full of beautiful sentiments for several occasions. But I like to build my birthday stash at the beginning of the year. So I went with the bold birthday sentiment from a previous sentiment kit called HelloSweetheart Bouquet.

About My Card

To start with, I stamped the image with Versafine Claire Nocturne ink on Fabriano Hotpressed 140lb watercolor paper. I used a water brush to watercolor my image with Peerless Watercolors. When I am watercoloring, especially florals, I am in my “zone”. Anyone that has watched Disney’s Soul would know what I am talking about. I literally forget the rest of the world, relax and enjoy myself. My tip for today is to not worry about the light source and shadows. Just start dark towards the base of every petal and lighten and pull the pigment out to the rest of the petal. Also try adding a second layer with a slightly different color after the first layer is completely dry. Like in this case I used a reddish shade and added interest with a more pinkish tone.

Once I was happy with my coloring, I stamped the sentiment and die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die. Then, I matted the panel with some glitter cardstock and adhered it to an A2 card base. This completes my card for today and I hope you feel inspired to try watercoloring some florals today.

Thank You

I have been looking at all the gorgeous entries for the “fresh start with florals” challenge and it makes me so happy! I look forward to seeing more of your gorgeous creations with Unity’s floral stamps. Psssst…… I have a couple of florals releasing tomorrow. Stay tuned.
