Mix-Media Backgrounds | Card and Tag

August 24, 2021 - by Sandhya Iyer

Mix-Media Backgrounds | Card and Tag

Hello friends! This is Sandhya and today’s projects are all about mix-media backgrounds. Mix-media is something I love but struggle with. I went out of my comfort zone and played with layering, ink smooshing, splattering, and of course some stamping with a few of my favorite Unity stamps.

Mix-Media Background Card

mix media backgrounds

I started with a piece of Strathmore mix-media paper and coated it with gesso. Then, I smooshed it with Salvaged Patina and Crackling Campfire Distress reinkers on my glass mat. I kept drying the layers and adding more ink till I was happy with the background.

Next, I did partial stamping with the Love and Wisdom Background and black ink. Then, I distressed along the edge with some black ink. I also stamped and fussy cut the August Gladiolus flower and adhered it to the panel.

Finally, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment from the August Gladiolus set. Because the cardstock was primed with gesso, the ink takes a long time to dry. So I sprinkled clear embossing powder on areas where I saw wet ink and heat set over it. This gave the background extra texture and sheen in few areas, thereby adding more interest. I embellished the panel with enamel dots and a piece of jute twine and attached it to a card base.

Mix-Media Background Tag

I followed a similar process to make the tag. However, here I used the Encompassed Beauty stamp to add details to my background. For the sentiment, I used the Blessed & Happy Everything stamp and die set.

Thank You
