Classic Birthday Card

September 24, 2021 - by Julissa Padilla

Classic Birthday Card

Happy Friday, crafty friends!  Today I’m sharing a card I made for my soon-to-be father-in-law’s 70th birthday!  He’s worked in the automotive industry for decades.  It’s only right to make a card with a classic car like the 1950s Chevy Pick Up in the “Slowly Turning Classic” stamp set.  This stamp set is a great way to celebrate the classics.

I actually stamped the image on a yellowish patterned paper.  It already looked a little weathered, but was light enough to color on it.  Using Copic markers, I colored in the truck.  Next, I created a mask for the truck, placed it over the image and used stencils to create the rays and the number 70 behind the truck.  Using a little brown to age the edges a little… and last but not least, stamp that awesome sentiment.

After layering the image onto kraft card stock and placing it on the card base… I thought, why not jazz up the envelope.  Using a light brown ink, I stamped the same pick up truck on the lower left hand side of the envelope and used another stencil to add tire tracks over it.  By keeping it with a light brown, it still remains subtle.

Just a couple things to take away from this card…

  • Try stamping and coloring on patterned paper.
  • Use letters and numbers to personalize a card.
  • Add dull colors on the edge of paper to make it look aged.  If you’re really wild, consider crumbling the page and opening it back up for a more distressed look.
  • Decorate your envelope with the same stamp on the card to create a matched set.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you find some inspiration with this blog.  Don’t forget to stop by the Unity {Show & Tell} Facebook page for more inspiration and for you to inspire others with your art.

Until next time…

Happy Crafting!
