Hello crafty friends! This is Sandhya and I am sharing how I created layers and dimension with the Colossal Snowflake stamp as well as the Heart of Christmas stamp and die set. Look out for this ginormous snowflake and its coordinating die in today’s new release at Unity.
Layered Snowflake Cards with Dimension
I played around with some fun techniques and ended up with two cards at the same time. First, I took a piece of watercolor paper measuring 8.5″ X 5.5″ and spritzed it with water. Then, I went on to spray Distress Spray Stains (Tumbled Glass and Chipped Sapphire) and Distress Mica Stain (Snow Flurries) and smooshed the panel down on my media mat till I was happy with my background.
Next, I cut the background piece into two halves. I used a wonky stitched rectangle die to die cut one panel. On the other half of the inky background, I stamped and heat embossed the Colossal Snowflake using white embossing powder. I die cut the snowflake and kept it aside.
Then, I went back to my inky background panel and added a stamped layer using the Blanked of Snow background stamp. I also added some water and white gouache splatters.
Next, I pulled out some dark navy cardstock and stamped the snowflake as well as sentiments. I heat embossed these using white embossing powder, die-cut them, and kept them aside. I felt the white embossing was not standing out against the inky cardstock, so I used a blending brush to add some Prized Ribbon Distress Ink to the snowflake die-cut, and voila! It now took on a personality of its own.
I took another piece of the navy cardstock and embossed it using a 3D embossing folder. Then, I die cut a banner out of white cardstock to help my snowflake stand out against the dark background.
Now that I had all my pieces, I assembled both cards using liquid adhesive and some foam tape to pop up some parts. I also added some silver thread under the snowflake on one card. This completes my cards for today!
