Hello friends!
I’m filling in for Heather this month while she’s on break. I hope to share a few of the August membership kits with you because, as Heather says, these kits are what drew me to Unity years ago when I first started to craft. I was smitten with the detail and unique designs! I felt like (and still do) it was so easy to create a card using Unity products because the detail in their stamps was (and is) incredible! Red rubber stamps provide details like no other!
Today I am sharing the August Sentiment kit! The sentiment kit generally features a design element along with several sentiments that can be used on the outside and inside of your card panel! I don’t know about you, but I can never have enough sentiments! Here is a photo of the kit below:
Right away I fell in love with the mushrooms and knew I wanted to color them in red. Why red, you ask? I’m not sure, but I think that I’ve seen photos of red mushrooms and loved them!
First step was to stamp the mushroom trio and butterfly onto the center of white cardstock. Because I planned to use alcohol markers to color, I stamped in permanent black ink onto XPress it cardstock. I think this cardstock is the smoothest for alcohol marker coloring. Next, it was time to color the mushrooms in red!
I colored the mushroom heads in red and the underside and stem in brown. Then I went back over the top of the mushrooms with a white Gelly Roll pen to add detailing. The butterfly was colored in a sutble yellow so that it would blend with the scenery.
Once the coloring was finished, I decided to add detail to the background. So I die cut Wavy Nested Frames die made by Whimsy Stamps onto masking paper and then adhered the outer portion of the mask so that the mushrooms were still showing through the mask. Using a very small blending brush, I carefullly blended color around the mushrooms, going from light to dark. Then I removed the mask and had this playful backdrop to my red mushrooms! I finished with an awesome sentiment from the kit, and then adhered the card panel over a black Scallop frame and then onto a white card base.
The membership kits are available by clicking here. I’m so glad you joined me today! See you next week!
