Hello friends! Today I’m here to show you a card using the April Background of the Month! It’s called Linen, and here is a picture of the stamp below:
I love how abstract this background is – there are so many things you can do with it! For my card today, I want to show you how to incorporate another stamp with the Linen BOM to create an easy mixed media style card!
First step was to stamp the Linen BOM in black ink onto a white card panel. Then I ink blended over the image with Distress Oxide inks in Barn Door, Mermaid Lagoon, and Spiced Marmalade. After I ink blended, I splashed a bit of water droplets over it, which removed some of the ink and gave the background interest! Another option to ink blending is to ink shmoosh using watercolor paper. Place the ink directly onto a glass surface and spray the ink with water. Then pick up the color from the glass surface using the watercolor paper. That will provide a completely different look than ink blending!
Next, I trimmed the panel using my Deckled paper trimmer. Now I was ready to add more detail to this lovely background!
Using Inked Floral, I stamped the large flower from the stamp over the Linen image using black ink. I had to stamp it a few times to get a dark, solid image. Then I added gold metallic splatters over all of the card panel and adhered it to a 5.5×4.25 black card base. I finished with a sentiment from Every Single Day, framed with black cardstock that was also trimmed with my deckled paper trimmer. Below is a close-up image of all that detail!
There are so many ways to use the Linen BOM stamp, from stamping just the image, and either ink blending or ink shmooshing with bright colors and finishing with a bold sentiment, to layering over it with more stamps from Unity! I think it’s best to use a large, bold design for this technique. Also, did you know that you can become a member of the Background of the Month club and receive the newest stamp at a discount each month? For more information on the membership, click here.
