Creating a Colorful Scene featuring June Background of the Month

Creating a Colorful Scene featuring June Background of the Month

Hi friends! Today I want to share an easy and fun way to add depth and color to your scenery cards! For my card, I will be using June’s Background of the Month!

I am not great when it comes to creating scenes on my cards, so I’m always on the lookout for an easy way to create a pretty scene on my cards! June’s BOM is a sweet summer scene that reminds me of the farm fields in the Midwest. I can just smell that fragrance!

First step was to determine the colors that I wanted to use to fill my scene with beautiful color. Now, one tip that will be helpful is not to worry about making the scene look realistic. Use your imagination and create the scene to your liking! That will allow you to relax and enjoy the process!

Getting back to my card, I grabbed Copic markers in shades of brown for the dirt, shades of pink and yellow and blue for the flowers, shades of teal for the grass, and shades of purple for the sky.

Starting with the flowers, I kept it simple by using one color per flower. I used Copic markers in RV09, Y14, and B05. Then I went around the flowers and colored the grasses using BG09. I felt that the deep teal color would complement the brightly colored flowers. When that was finished, I colored the trees and hills in the background using G19, YG09, and YG99. Finally, I colored the dirt using E15, E18, and E13, going from darkest to lightest.

Next, I started on the sky. I wanted to create a sky at dusk, so I used distress oxide inks in Antique Linen, Victorian Velvet, and Seedless Preserves. I inked up the area behind the tress and hills, going from light to dark in the colors mentioned above. Then I went back in and added V06 Copic marker to the clouds to emphasize them a bit more.

I finished with a sentiment and then added Nuvo Shimmer to the clouds and flowers. I trimmed the card panel and placed it over a slightly larger piece of black cardstock. Then I adhered both layers over a gold card base sized 5.5×4.25.

To summarize, I kept the coloring very basic and went with color hues that were attractive to me. The ink blending in the background was very basic, yet effective in creating that dusky-looking sky! I recommend referring to color mood boards for color inspiration when you’re working on a scene for your cards! That can really take the edge off and help you to enjoy the entire process as I did with my card!
