Hello Unies,
Stencils are so versatile, and can be used in so many ways. Today we are going to take a look at adding them to stamped images for added texture.
I have two cards for you today that show the same stencil used in two entirely different ways, the first card being super cute and simple and the second a little more mixed media same stencil different look.
Distress oxide ink are my go to for ink blending, it captures so much color and depth when blending. For larger background I tend to use bristol smooth paper, as it takes some water and ink well, I love that it’s a thicker paper as well.
The Details!
This first card I used In my thoughts girl, which is really good for this technique because the flower is very open with little inside. Adding a stencil to it is easy and a lot of fun, I hope you give it a try. Using Copic RV91 with Kitsch flamingo (Distress Oxide) over top, the leaves I used g02 with Pine needle. The pattern paper is Unity White Winter! I also used Scallop sentiment die and the Scallops & Rectangles nesting dies (these dies are my most used, well worth having in your collection)
This second card was so much fun, lots of layers and lots of texture on this one, If you have not tried Copics on kraft paper I suggest you give it a try I love the muted look, for this one I used the set Peony Ledger with Frayed Burlap distress oxide, it does amazing things on Kraft paper, it kind of oxidizes with a patina almost. I took a close up here so you can see, and don’t be afraid to give it a little spray of water, Kraft paper can also handle a little water, not saturated but a spray or watercolor will be ok. I like muted colors on Kraft so I used Copic yg 61, Rv 95 & yr24. White splatter always pops on Kraft, I added my stencil to the areas around the flower, adds a nice bit of texture, brings the grey scale to the image and ties it all together. Dies used are the Deckle & Stitched Unity dies, and the stencil is from Stencil girl. The sentiment is Tim Holtz, (Do we really need to add his last name, HAHAH)
I hope todays blog inspires you to try adding stencils over stamped images, it is a real fun way to go outside the box with our stencils.
As always if you play along with this months challenge, please add your entry into the album over on Unity Facebook group Show N Tell.
Happy Crafting my friends,
