Hi friends,
Today I want to share how to add life to your background stamps with easy Copic coloring! I’ll be using the August Background of the Month stamp, which is are lovely Pussy Willows!
I love how unique each background stamp is every month! They can be used in such a variety of ways! Today I wanted to keep the focus solely on this lovely background, and Copic coloring is a wonderful way to add life to the design without taking away from its natural beauty!
My first step was to stamp the image using black permanent ink. Permanent ink won’t bleed with your alcohol markers. A couple of brands that I prefer are Gina K Designs Amalgam black ink and Hero Arts Intensified Black ink!
Once my stamping was done, I googled some images of Pussy Willows to determine how to color them, and found a lovely Japanese version with pink buds, so I decided to go with that color! I used Copic markers in RV13, RV14, and RV09. Then I ran E18 over the black stems. You can see the detail in the photo below!
Next, I decided to add color to the background with B12 to create a blue sky behind the Pussy Willow. It looks as if someone took a close-up photo of it with the blue sky as the backdrop!
Since I was keeping the focus on the background, I decided to add a bit more detail to add interest. So, I used a nesting rectangle die cut and cut right through the middle of the colored card panel, along with a black card panel cut slightly larger. I adhered both together and placed them over the outer part of the card panel, and then placed both onto a white card base. I finished with a sentiment from Magical Lilac stamp. I thought this sentiment added a nice touch!
Above is a finished photo of all the layers and colors, and it turned out great! For more information on the monthly memberships, click here. For information on the Background of the Month stamps, click here.
