The card: Mary and the baby under a foiled night sky
I started by stamping this beautiful image of Mary and baby Jesus on watercolor paper. I’m a fan of watercoloring with inks, so I pulled out a few Distress Ink cubes to work with listed below. The sentiment in the set reads “Joy to the world, the Lord has come”, which matched the holy night theme.
Distress Ink: Tattered Rose, Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Frayed Burlap, Hickory Smoke, Broken China, Dusty Concord
The night sky, the foiled stars, and the oopsie
For the background, I used the following Distress Inks for a lovely blend: Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Faded Jeans, and Black Soot. That rich night sky was perfect for the hot foiled stars. I ended up with a bunch of overfoiling that I die cut away. This is a good reminder to always check what type of sandwich you need for your machine.

Questions cardmakers ask
What is in the Joy of Baby Jesus stamp set?
Two stamps: Mary standing with the baby wrapped against her shoulder, about 1.75 by 4 inches, and the sentiment “Joy to the world, the Lord has come”.
Do I have to hot foil the stars?
No. A white gel pen, white embossing powder, or a splatter of white paint on the blended sky gives the same starry effect without a foiling machine.
What went wrong with the foiling?
Overfoiling: foil transferred outside the star plate because the sandwich was wrong for the machine. Lisa die cut the panel smaller to trim it away. Check your machine’s plate sandwich before you run the foil.
