Hello Crafty Friends! I am super excited to be up on the Unity Blog today! I will be sharing posts with you each week on Thursday’s! My goal is to share projects with you each week with a mixed media vibe! So for my first week I wanted to share 2 ATC’s (Artist Trading Cards) with you using the December Kit of the Month – Difference maker! So let’s get started!
I fell in love with the silhouette florals in the kit! They are so easy to use and perfect for mixed media. If you do not have this kit, there are so many other possibilities in the Unity Stamp Company shop which will provide a similar look! I started with a pre-made background from my stash. My background was created using Lindy’s Gang Magicals. I trimmed the background using a Sizzix/Tim Holtz die to create 2 ATC’s. If you do not have the die, that is okay you can trim the panel to 2.5 x 3.5 inches to create an ATC. I then die cut the extra background panel using a filmstrip die in my stash. I always keep the “extra” pieces and save them for mixed media projects, they come in handy! Once everything was die cut, I was ready to begin stamping!
I chose the silhouette floral images from the kit (December KOM – Difference Maker). I prepped each of the ATC backgrounds with my anti static powder tool, then stamped the images in VersaFine Clair Ink – Nocturne. I stamped the florals in random places, then once complete I heat embossed them using clear embossing powder. Next I used the Soul Mail stamp kit to add texture to the background of each ATC. I used the text stamp in the kit and randomly stamped in various places on each ATC using black ink. When I add texture to the background I generally do “taco stamping” to add random texture and uneven inking.
Next I adhered the filmstrip edge to the ATC using liquid glue. I then darkened the edges using a foam dauber and black ink. I then applied Hero Arts Gold wax to various edges of each ATC. I apply the wax with my finger. I also added a bit of gold metallic splatter to each ATC for added shine and texture.
I completed the ATC’s with 2 sentiments from Unity, as well as added the Butterfly Ephemera wood pieces). I love the gifts included in the Unity KOM – these were part of a free gift!
Thank you so much for joining me today! I will be back next week with more Mixed Media Inspiration!
Have a great week!
Crafty Hugs,
Natasha
