Hello friends!
It’s Amber (or you may know me as Forever Amber’s Art) – and I am THRILLED to be here! Today is my first Unity Blog post and I can’t wait to create some clean and simple cards as inspiration for you!
I love being able to create cute cards that don’t take a lot of fuss or time – and getting two cards done at once is even better! Using products that can work “double duty” is always a treat, and this month I have designed two simple and sweet cards using Unity’s Deckled and Stitches Nesting dies and a favorite stamp from my stash!
This really isn’t a “breakthrough technique” 😉
But I tend to want to save scraps when I have die cut, so using that “negative” comes in handy for a great background mask or stencil.
For my 1st card, I simply used one of the nesting dies I wanted as a layer, and left a “frame” around it. (That deckled rectangle got set to the side for card #2)
I chose Tim Holtz Distress inks in Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet and Walnut Stain to blend. They create an AMAZING wintery- evening sky when you combine them together!
I wanted a card that could be used for any occasion and we still have a little bit of winter left to go here in Northern Canada (ok…we have probably 3-4 more months but I am trying to stay optimistic)
I decided to use Getting Cozy – this is a beautiful stamp set from Dec ’22’s Whit Kit.
I simply stamped both the image and the sentiment direct to the same layer. I used my acrylic blocks and had success but using a stamp platform will also help with this. I simply added some champagne-colored gems for a little sparkle and card #1 was complete.
I wanted my second card to have more than one layer as it’s all white, and (a little short-cut/cheat) I just set that deckled panel on top of the second layer to have things line up. I inked up the birdies in the branch in Smoky Slate ink and let it hang over the edge so that I could capture it on a second layer for this card, and tore the edge for a bit of texture. I added the sentiment in black and popped up that layer before attaching it all to my base. Card #2 is clean and sweet – perfect for brightening a friend’s day during this long winter.
I hope you try creating multiple cards with your dies – keeping those negative images sometimes help create a great background for a simple card.
Here’s a little re-cap of the crafty goodness I used:
Stamp: Getting Cozy (WK12/22)
Tools: Deckle and Stitches nesting die set
Ink: Versafine -Nocturne, Tim Holtz Distress inks-Walnut Stain, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Peace Love n Ink
