Hi friends!
Did you know that Unity Stamp Co. has an incredible array of patterned paper? I love to collect it, and I also love to find new ways to use it! Today I’m going to share how I stamped over patterned paper to create a fun and easy card with tons of interest! I’ll be using December’s Kit of the Month, Vintage Whispers patterned paper, Cut Apart Sentiment Strips, and Copic markers.
First, I chose what sheets of this beautiful, patterned paper I wanted to use with the feathers from the December’s Kit of the Month. I wanted a subtle background that wouldn’t compete with the feathers, and then another sheet of patterned paper to layer with the main panel.
Having chosen my patterned paper, I stamped 3 of the feathers in permanent black ink. I used a stamp platform because I needed to stamp the image a few times to get solid coverage. The stamp platform helps you stamp in the exact same place every time! You can find them just about anywhere, too!
Once I created a background with the feathers, I went back in to add detail using one of the sentiments from the kit. Using the taco stamping technique, which is folding the stamp in half and then rolling it onto the card panel, I added a bit more detail to fill in the extra space between the feathers.
TIP: The taco stamping method is great if you only want to stamp part of the image onto a card panel! It’s a fun mixed media technique!
Next step was to color the feathers to bring them to life. I used Copic markers in YG07, YG17, RV13, RV14, RV17, BG13 and BG49.
TIP: Copic markers tend to bleed and they need to be used on high quality paper, so use a very light touch if you color onto patterned paper! If you use a light touch, it will work out just fine!
I added gold splatters and trimmed the panel using my deckled paper trimmer. I adhered it over a slightly larger piece of trimmed black cardstock, and then adhered both onto another piece of patterned paper to create layers. Then I placed the entire panel onto a white 5.5×4.25 card base! I finished with gold paste in a couple of corners of the panel to enhance the gold splatter! Look at the photo below to see the cool detail from the patterned paper behind the feathers! It’s subtle, but very effective!
Using patterned paper as your backdrop to your stamped designs is a fast and easy way to add interest to the background! Choose 2 or 3 sheets from a set that is coordinated for you, and then stamp away!!! You just can’t go wrong with this technique! Thanks for stopping by!
