Hi friends!
Have you seen January’s Background of the Month yet? If not, you’re in for a real treat! This may be my most favorite one yet, so of course I needed to use it as much as possible!
I stamped the beautiful image using permanent black ink over a piece of patterned paper from North Pole patterned paper collection. Already we’ve got an interesting background happening, and you can get a close up look in the photo below. I love stamping over patterned paper! But I wanted to bring the flowers to life with more color.
Using liquid watercolors in Terracotta, Aqua, Purple, and Deep Ocean, I added a light layer of color to the flowers and butterflies. With the patterned paper, it’s important to use very little water and a light touch with the watercolor, lest the paper warp because it’s not watercolor material. But, if you use a light touch and don’t add more than one layer, you’ll be fine! To keep the background color consistent, I water colored the leaves and butterflies with Terracotta, adding a touch of blue to the butterflies. I think that helped to bring out the patterned paper in the background!
Once the water coloring was finished, I trimmed the card panel and placed it over a 5.5×4.25 black card base. Then I finished with silver splatters and a sentiment from Cutapart Sentiment Strips. This card was SO EASY to make because of 2 things: 1) the details in the stamp, and 2) the patterned paper in the background.
