Hi friends,
I love to play with patterned paper in unexpected ways. It’s a great way to use up your paper stash and an easy way to add interest to your card! Today’s card will use the Ribbons and Ruffles stamp! This card will go to my son and daughter in law, who are expecting a baby girl in May!
First, I stamped this ADORABLE baby girl in black ink onto a white card panel. Then I stamped a flower that comes with the set around her, creating a wallpaper scene behind the baby and bassinet. Next, I colored the girl, bassinet, and wallpaper in shades of pink and brown. I used Copic markers in R81, R83, R85, E70, and E18. I kept my colors subtle and vintage! Next, I trimmed her down into a square size, inked the edges in black ink, and then focused on the patterned paper that would go behind her!
When I’m using patterned paper with my focal point, I search for common elements such as color and pattern, so the paper compliments the focal point. I found two pieces of scrap patterned paper in my Unity stash. One piece was an abstract shade of brown, and the other was checkered in blue and white. Here we have 2 patterns and colors happening, and they worked well together. I trimmed the brown piece and placed it over the checkered piece. Then, I found a small piece of floral scrap paper that was similar to the wallpaper, so I placed that small strip of paper over the brown piece of paper. Then I added the baby girl. I had 2 tiny sheets of ephemera that I tucked behind her, just for added interest. Then I finished by trimming a sentiment from this stamp set and inking the edges in black ink to give it a vintage vibe! I added glossy accents over her beautiful eyes!
Patterned paper generally comes pre-coordinated for you, making it easy to use with your focal point. But get creative and playful with it! Try different pieces together and even take photos of the combinations until you get a good vibe about a certain combination!
