Happy Tuesday!! Maria here with a fun little project for you. I have a bunch of step out photos to share with you today!
I created this mini book from scratch using my bind it all by Zutter little machine. I’ve had this little guy for literally years! I think I got it when it first came and really never used it. To be honest I could never quite figure it out to make it work well! LOL! Then chime in the 18 year old son who figured it out for me! LOL! Since I’ve been having fun making my own little journal books.
The size is 6 x 6. This is a great size especially if you are used to making cards it makes journaling less intimidating. I have journal books that I straight up paint and draw in. So for today’s project I decided to make a journal using some of Unity’s fun stamps.
This is the journal I made:
Here are my steps:
First I took my cover boards and used white gesso to prime them. I used boards that originally came with the product. But I also have on hand a pack of boards from Bazzill for future projects.
Then I added paint I choose a bright fun yellow.
Once dry I stamped the big butterfly from the Seraphim Wings kit using my Misti. Yes the board is thin enough and fits fine in the misti to stamp on it.
I wanted to add other elements so using the kit called Paper Wings I used the little fluffy flower for the corners.
Fingers crossed that I punched the holes correctly
I stamped the butterfly again on paper. Later (I didn’t take pics) I colored with Tombows and cut out.
Stamps beautifully!
I added the cut out butterfly to the top to create a 3D effect
I cut out a bunch of stamping paper as well as watercolor papers (140lb) that will the inside of the book. Hint though if you love to use Copics or any alcohol markers do not use watercolor paper. Watercolor paper will suck up all that ink from Alcohol markers. I mixed it up so the plain paper in my book can take Alcohol markers and then I have the watercolor markers wo water color.
Of course my bad I didn’t take a pic when I but the binding on but I used Zutter 3/4 wire spiral binders for this. And that little pink machine closes the wires great.
So I didn’t want to leave you hanging and decided to use Paper Wings to create a journal page in this fun new book:
I added some basic color in the background using the blending brushes as well as direct to paper
I have taped to an acrylic block a small piece of actual bubble wrap and I like to use it as a stamp to create effects. Before this though I had added the little fluffy flowers to the bottom of the page.
So FUN!
Background complete
Stamp out the cute butterflies from Paper Wings set, colored with Tombows and cut out.
Finished page! You can ink through those wire spirals for sure if that white bothers you I just didn’t. 🙂
You may wonder but darn I don’t have a binding machine to do this. Never fear you can still make your own little journal. Just get yourself journal covers to use or even some heavy weight cardboard that you may have received in packaging. You can just punch holes at the top like I did with the machine and hold the covers and papers inside together with binder rings!
