Hello Unity Friends, it is Natasha here and I am excited to be back on the blog for a new Mixed Media Thursday! Today I am sharing a page in my mixed media journal! I love creating in my journal and using stamps and items in my stash to get inky! Today’s project is all about using stamps and items in your stamp collection to create! I combined a few favorites from my stash today, so let’s get started!
Today’s page was inspired by the unique set of stamps: A-Round and A-Round! I love this unique stamp set and feel these circle stamps are so amazing for a mixed media inspired project. I used these circles as my starting point. I started by stamping the circles using a combination of Distress Ink colors onto Hot Press watercolor paper. I applied the ink to the stamp, spritz the ink with water, then stamped the circle onto the watercolor paper. I continued with a few colors. I allowed the circles to completely dry and then die cut the circles with dies in my stash.
Next I looked in my Unity stash to figure out what I wanted to add to my journal! I picked 2 sets using butterflies: Paper Wings and Grow Transform Evolve. I stamped the butterflies using an alcohol marker ink onto my paper. I allowed the ink to dry and then once dry I colored the butterflies using my alcohol markers. I wanted to try alcohol ink coloring again, it has been awhile and it is not something I am confident in. I have lots to learn, but I had fun and that is truly what I love about crafting! Once they were all colored, I fussy cut the butterflies and then inked up the edges using Black Soot distress ink.
Next I created the background for my journal using Lindy’s Magicals. These are pigment powders. I love using these to create a background with color and texture. Once the background was created and dry, I added a bit more texture using a few stamp sets. I have these listed below for you! I encourage you to look in your Unity Stash to find sets that you can use to add texture to a background! I love looking for text, numbers, and other patterns that create texture in a background! I stamped these onto the background using dye ink. Next I added embossing glaze and distress ink to the edges of my journal.
I completed my project by putting all the layers together. I used the circles, butterflies, as well as ephemera from my stash. I adhered all the layers together using liquid glue. I had so much fun putting this together! I added a sentiment to complete my journal page.
I hope you enjoyed today’s project! I love working in my journal and combining sets from my Unity Stash! I will be back soon with more Mixed Media Inspiration! Have a great week!
