Hello Unity Friends, it is Natasha here on the blog today! I am excited to be back today on the blog sharing a handmade tag! I love making tags as I truly enjoy the size of the project and there are so many sizes to work with when creating tags, they are a lot of fun! Today I am using the beautiful Joy in your Dreams stamp set as my focal image on my tag, as well as the Bohemian Dreams pattern paper pack! I love the idea of stamping on pattern paper for that quick color! This allows you to stamp your image and not color at all, or even add just a little color! Unity has beautiful pattern paper for this tip and have several gorgeous packs with that mixed media feel too! So let’s get started!
I started by creating my background for the tag using Hot Press Water color paper. I love building layers and will use hot press paper at times, as well as mixed media paper, etc. You want a paper that can hold layers of color and additional water too! Today I used Distress Inks for the background layer. I used the following colors: Mustard Seed, Crushed Olive, Weathered Wood, Spiced Marmalade, and Peacock Feathers. I work one layer at a time following this process: add ink to work surface (smoosh), add water and move the ink with my finger, I then dip the paper into the color and dry with my heat tool. Next I added water droplets to the color and pick up the color with a paper towel. I continue to repeat this process with all the colors and repeat as needed until I have the color and texture I am looking for. Once the panel was completely dry, I die cut the panel using a tag die.
Next I added stamping to the background of the tag with 2 stamp sets: Joy in your Dreams and She Art Doodles. I stamped images in a random pattern using both a black and green dye ink. I then darkened the edges of the tag using Scorched Timber Distress Ink with a blending tool.
I then stamped the floral image from the Joy in your Dreams set onto a piece of pattern paper from the Bohemian Dreams Paper pack. I stamped the image and heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder. I also added Distress Oxide ink to the background panel using Brushed Corduroy. Next I added a little color to the floral petals and leaves using my Zig markers. The coloring here took moments, as the pattern paper provides beautiful color and texture. I then ripped the panel with my hands for added interest, then applied Distress Ink to the edges and added foam tape to the back of the floral panel.
I then added all the layers together using the floral panel, ephemera (acetate bird, washi, number strip), as well as the sentiment. All of the ephemera on today’s tag are free gifts from Unity! I LOVE all the added gifts with each order! These are the perfect addition to your card projects, journals, tags, as well as ATC’s! I love looking through this stash each time I create!
Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope today’s project inspires you to try stamping on pattern paper for that quick added color and texture! I will be back next week with another Mixed Media project! Be sure to check out the Unity Supplies I used below!
