Hello Crafty Friends, it is Natasha here today back on the blog! Today I am sharing an idea using the brown bags our Unity gifts come in with our orders! I have been saving my bags and decided today it was time to create something with these bags! I had an idea, could I create some ephemera using the bags! So let’s get started!
I started with a brown bag and some sprays from my stash. I opened the bag up to create a flat piece, then started to spritz the bag with Lindy’s Gang Sprays. I dried each layer with my heat tool and then adhered the bag panel to a piece of kraft cardstock. Next I stamped the Letterpress Numbers stamp onto the panel using Archival Ink. I then trimmed each of the numbers, then distressed the edges using my distress tool, inked the edges, and set them aside.
Next I created the background using Lindy’s Magicals. I wanted to create a background for the beautiful butterfly stamp using red and blue magicals. I also added stars to the background using texture paste and embossing powder. I added the paste through various stars on the stencil, then added embossing powder when the paste was wet. I then heated the powder and paste, I love this effect as the paste bubbles from the heat. I added more texture to the stars with gold wax. I then added a bit more of the magicals in sections for more texture. I allowed the background to fully dry, then added white gesso to sections of the background. I also added the red and blue magicals to an extra piece of paper, once this panel was dry, I die cut 3 circles.
Next I stamped the Home of the Brave stamp onto Hot Press watercolor paper using my Distress watercolor pencils. I then trimmed the butterfly and added Distress Stain in Antique Linen to the image. Next I stamped the sentiment from the set onto a piece of paper I created earlier (brown bag) and trimmed the sentiment with a die from my stash.
I completed the project by adhering all the layers onto a top folding card base. I added a dry embossed background panel, then adhered all the other layers together using a combination of foam tape, as well as liquid glue. I hope today’s project inspires you to look around your craft room and use some of those goodies you have been keeping for another time!
I will be back soon – Natasha
