Hello friends, Lisa here with some vintage vibes for Sentiment Saturday.
I loved making this steampunk inspired birthday card! It combines Unity Stamp Company December Background of the Month with pattern paper to create a layered collage look with vintage vibes. It is a different style for me but the pattern paper inspired me to combine all the things.
Assemble This! Videos are more detailed as we create this card together step-by-step. You’ll get all my tips and tricks to inspire your next card. Watch on YouTube. I’d love it if you’d subscribe to my channel! You’ll be the first to know when a new tutorial goes up too.

Happy Birthday
This card is all about layering and combining elements for a steampunk collage look. I started by stamping the Faded Rose background stamp onto Steampunk Fairyland pattern paper, which added a beautiful texture and soft, faded vibe. Then, I fussy cut ephemera from the pattern paper {the clock, butterfly, and floral accents} and pieced them onto the background for added depth. A bold turquoise Happy Birthday sentiment on a die cut arch tag became the focal point, while ink-blended edges and gold embellishments tied everything together. I absolutely love how the pattern paper and stamping work together to create a cohesive, vintage look.
Creative Tips & Techniques
- Stamping on Pattern Paper: Pick a paper with light or faded designs so your stamp details shine through.
- Create Your Own Ephemera: Look for interesting designs on pattern paper, like florals or clocks, to fussy cut and use as embellishments.
- Ink Blending: Add soft ink to the edges of die cuts or backgrounds for an aged effect.
- Die Cutting: Use rectangle and arch tag dies to create frames and focal points that tie the design together.
- Tying It Together: Finish your card with a loopy bow, metallic embellishments, or distressed edges for added texture. Check out the video for instructions on how to tie a loopy bow.
