Hi friends!
Today I’m going to share a unique way to use your background stamps! It’s called Spotlight Coloring! I’ll be using February’s Background of the Month stamp, alcohol markers, circle nesting dies in 3 sizes, permanent black ink, and Bloom from Within stamp. Unity’s background stamps are so unique and can be used in a variety of ways. I wanted to show you a unique way to capture the background stamp and add detail to enhance it! February’s image is a lovely bouquet of flowers, ready to be colored!
First, I stamped the background image onto a piece of white cardstock sized 5.5×4.25, using permanent black ink. Then, I chose 3 sizes of circle dies, placed them over the stamped image, and die cut them out.
Next, I colored only within the 3 circles, as the circles would become the “spotlight” when finished. The trick to doing this successfully is to frequently place the circle back into the entire image to check what you are coloring. For example, this image has flowers overlapping one another, and you may not notice that when you look at the circle by itself. But when you place the circle back into the entire panel, you can then tell what you are coloring so that you don’t paint a leaf pink or two different flowers the same color! You have to envision what it would look like if you colored the entire panel and then focus on adding that color only to the circles.
Once the coloring was done, I adhered the outer panel to a white card base. I added foam tape to each circle and carefully placed them back into their spot, like a puzzle piece! I finished with a sentiment from Bloom from Within. When you look at the photo below, those colored circles pop right off the page, but you can still see the beauty of the entire image!
