Hi friends!
Welcome to another Membership Thursday with me as your host! February’s Whit Kit is perfect for your critter lovers! It’s filled with various images of Geese – big ones and little ones, and the cutest sentiments! You can create a simple card with one of the images or go to town with masking all the geese into one scene! My card today is a mixed media piece using a few of the geese! I’ll be using February’s Whit Kit, Barnyard Bouquet and Jubilant Tapestry paper packs, circle nesting dies, black ink and a blending brush, Ranger Spritz in Rusty Hinge, crinkly ribbon, alcohol markers, and the cloud stencil. First, I stamped one of the images from Whit Kit of a mama goose looking down lovingly onto her baby goose. Then I stamped an individual baby goose separately. I used a permanent black ink to stamp the images as I planned to color them all with my alcohol markers. The mama goose was colored in shades of grey, and the baby geese in shades of pink. I added grass and dirt below the geese with my alcohol markers and created clouds behind them with a cloud stencil, light blue dye ink, and a blending brush.
Next, I die cut the image of mama and baby using a circle nesting die. I also die cut a larger piece in black cardstock. Then I adhered the two circles together so that you see the black framing around the image. I added the 2nd baby goose to the right of mama. You can see all the details in the photo below!
Next, I focused on the background, which is quite busy! There are several steps to creating this, so I’ll share them with you in bullet points to keep it simple:
- Choose 3 pieces of coordinating patterned paper (I used Jubilant Tapestry and Barnyard Bouquet). You can get inspired with Unity’s entire paper line by clicking here.
- Trim each piece of paper to 5.5×4.25 (set the extra pieces aside for your next card)
- Adhere one piece of the patterned paper to a 5.5×4.25 white card base. For my card, that would be the checkered design.
- Tear the other 2 sheets of patterned paper in half going from one corner to the other corner, creating a jagged edge as seen in the photo below:
- Ink up the jagged edges of 2 of the torn sheets with black ink and a blending brush. Then adhere both layers together with one sheet peeking out from behind the other, as seen in the photo below:
- Lastly, adhere those layers over the 3rd piece of patterned paper that was adhered to the card base earlier.
- Ink up all 4 sides of the entire card panel with the same black ink and blending brush. Finish with splatters. I used Ranger Spritz spray in Rusty Hinge (but any of your favorites will do)
Now that the background was ready, I adhered the geese to the lower right corner of the card panel and slipped a piece of ephemera behind it for added interest. Then I placed a crinkle ribbon next to it. The ribbon adds a nice touch! I finished by stamping the sentiment from the Whit Kit, trimming it, and inking the edges of it to coordinate with the card panel.
