It’s Membership Thursday, and today I want to share how I get inspired to use color on my cards! I love to find new ways to use color because it can take an everyday design element and really make it pop! For today’s card, I’ll be using March’s Background of the Month, Copic markers, Steampunk Fairyland paper pad, a gold gel pen, and sparkles.
First, I chose the color inspiration. I googled “2025 Pantone color of the year” and below is what I found. This is the color palette I used for my card!
Now that my color palette was chosen, I grabbed Copic markers in BG72, B37, E09, E70, E71, E74, and E59. I stamped the background of the month design onto white cardstock using permanent black ink (this is the ink that I prefer to use), and then I colored it using my Copic markers. I LOVE how it turned out! Below is a close up – look at how the colors worked so beautifully together!
Next, I needed a background to complement my focal point. I chose a few pieces of patterned paper from Steampunk Fairyland that had similar shades as the focal point. I placed the March background over each of my selections, then chose the one that worked best and trimmed it to 5.25.4.0 in size.
I adhered the paper to a black card base sized 5.5×4.25. I fussy cut the background design out and placed it over the background paper on the center of the card panel. Then I added more detail to the design using a gold gel pen (see below) and finished with a large sparkle in the center.
The final step was to add the sentiment just below the background, with part of the background design slightly hovering over the sentiment. This grounded the sentiment!
That was it for this card! Once I found the color inspiration, everything else came into play easily! To find your own color inspiration, you can google colors by the seasons of the year, the pantone color of the year, or by searching on Instagram for color mood boards! These colors are already coordinated for you, making it easy to grab and finish your card!
