Light & Free Watercolor

This beautiful new girl from Unity Stamp Company was meant to be watercolored. I grabbed my Distress Watercolor Pencils and enjoyed the process of painting. I’m using cardstock, but if you struggle with using cardstock, use watercolor paper instead.

Distress Watercolor Pencil Colors:

• Dress: Peacock Feathers, Wilted Violet
• Hat: Mustard Seed, Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso
• Skin: Tattered Rose, Walnut Stain
• Hair: Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso, Mustard Seed
• Flowers: Mustard Seed, Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, Mowed Lawn
• Basket: Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso
• Bike/Shadow: Black Soot

I love the look of that ink blended torn panel layered over the embossed background. It is a great way to add color and texture at the same time. I fussy cut her out but there is a svg digital cut file available if you have an electronic cutting machine.

Creative Tips & Techniques

• Watercolor on Cardstock: When using Distress Pencils on cardstock, it is best to use a minimal amount of water. If the cardstock gets too wet, let it dry some before continuing so it doesn’t pill and tear.
• Smooth Blending: Use a circular motion with your blending tool to achieve a seamless ink background. It may look blotchy at first, but as it soaks into the paper it will smooth itself out.
• Embossing Precision: If you are having trouble getting a crisp impression from the embossing folder, lightly spray the cardstock with water before embossing to prevent cracking.
• Mix and Match: Don’t hesitate to combine different stamp sets or sentiments to personalize your card.
