Hi friends! Isn’t this little guy ‘turtley’ adorable? I’m sharing a fun card today featuring this cutie from Unity Stamp Company and a technique I like to call mixed media coloring. Yep, totally made it up but it fits!
In today’s Assemble This! video, I show how inks and Copic markers combine for that colorful turtle to match that bold stenciled background.

Mixed Media Coloring

This happy little turtle is perfect for sending love, encouragement, or a just-because note. I used a hexagon stencil from my stash that reminded me of a turtle shell and blended only two inks—teal and yellow. They create a beautiful teal, yellow, and lime combo I love. I used the same inks for ink smooshing, then picked Copic markers that matched those colors to finish off the coloring. It’s a simple but lovely coloring technique. I finished the coloring off with a few highlights of white gel pen.
Gina K Designs Ink Colors: Wild Dandelion, Turquoise Sea Copic Colors: Y02; YG03; BG13

CREATIVE TIPS & TECHNIQUES:
- Mixed Media Coloring Technique: Blend ink smooshing with Copic coloring using the same colors for a cohesive look.
- Limited Ink, Big Results: Use just two ink colors—when they overlap, you get a third color effortlessly.
- Try Different Color Combos: Who says your turtle has to be green? Try pink, purple, or even rainbow for a fun twist.
- Versatile Layout: Swap the image and sentiment to make this design work for any occasion.
I hope this sweet turtle and mixed media coloring technique sparks a new idea for your next card. It’s amazing what you can do with just two ink colors and a little mixed media magic. Whether you use this layout or experiment with a new palette, I’m cheering you on as you make something beautiful.
