Hi friends!
Welcome to Membership Thursday with me!
I love to do the emboss resist technique for so many reasons! It allows you to build color around your focal point, and the embossing keeps your focal point crisp and shiny! This is a great mixed media technique and all you need are embossing powders, embossing ink, a heat tool, and die inks! Let’s play with this technique using June’s Background of the Month stamp! This is a bold stamp that’s perfect for this technique!
I stamped the image using black ink onto white cardstock. NOTE: You can use any color of ink, so get creative and even make a few cards using different ink combos! Going back to my stamped image, I went back over the blackened squares a 2nd time using an alligator clip blending brush. An embossing ink pad stamped over the image also works, but I like the unevenness you get using the alligator clip brush! You can find these here. The embossing tools can be found here. I applied clear embossing powder over the ink and dried it with my heat tool. Already we’ve got a crisp and shiny image! Can you see it in the photo below?
Next step was to add color around the embossed image. Using green and blue inks, I applied rows of each color, protecting the rest of the uncolored panel using large post it notes (paper or masking tape will also due). Once I finished inking, I removed the ink from the embossed area using a micro cloth. This is important to do because that ink will dull the shine, and it can get on your clothes! You can see in the photo above how the embossing resisted the ink! You can also see the unevenness using the alligator clip tool. It just adds to the mixed media vibe!
Last step was to finish the card by trimming the checkered card panel to 5.25×4 and placing it over a white 5.5×4.25 card base. Then I die cut the Say It Big Thank You die sentiment in black and silver and applied it with foam tape over the background. Because this image is so busy, it didn’t need much help to finish the card!
The emboss resist technique works best with larger images like June’s Background of the Month! I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, thanks for stopping by!
