Hi there. Welcome to the Unity blog. I’m Gaylynn and I am delighted to share a watercolor art journaling project. Lately, I have been adding inspirational art to my art journal. It is so relaxing and something other than a card. My little art journal includes watercolor pages inside. I get to explore different techniques in the small 4″ x 4″ pages.
Today, I am using ink smooshing with this peaceful stamp scene from the June 2025 Uniquely Unity stamp kit called Enduring Connection. See the project supply list below.
Helpful Tips
1. Select a page in a watercolor art journaling pad or trim a card background panel using watercolor cardstock. I used a 4” x 4” art journal with watercolor pages.
2. Using the smooth side of watercolor cardstock, stamp the girl and cat scene plus a sentiment using black waterproof ink.
3. Onto a watercolor journal page, add watercolor in three colors using ink smooshing. I used leftover plastic packaging to add dye ink pad colors & water to ink smoosh.
4. Heat set or leave out to dry completely.
5. Use the same color combination to watercolor the girl scene using watercolor with a brush. Then heat set.
6. Fussy cut the girl panel and a sentiment. I used part of a sentiment.
7. Add double-sided extra tacky tape behind the girl and sentiment panels.
8. Adhere and layer the panels to the journal page or card front.
Here is the prep for the first step in the process.
Next up is the last part of the process.
