Chirps & Cheer – July Kit of the Month

Chirps & Cheer – July Kit of the Month

Hi friends!

Welcome to Membership Thursday! Today I have a fun mixed media layering card to share using all kinds of goodies! We’ll be using July’s Kit of the Month cute bird standing on a flower, Vintage Volumes patterned paper, Vintage Petals & The Old Design Shop ephemera, and Antique Poppy stamp!

There are many steps to this layered card, and I hope to explain it as clearly as possible! First, I chose 3 sheets of patterned paper from Vintage Volumes paper set. I trimmed them to 5.5×4.25 (the papers are sized 6×6, so I set the extra paper aside for next time) and adhered one piece to a white card base. Then I randomly stamped the images from Antique Poppy lightly in black ink over the piece of patterned paper.

Next, I created a vintage looking pocket using the two other pieces of patterned paper by tearing them up to create a jagged edge, inking up the jagged edges, and adhering them together so one peeks out from behind the other. I placed them over the first piece of patterned paper at the very bottom of the panel, making sure to add adhesive only to the outer edges of the pocket so that my tags will slip right in! You can see the details in the photo below!

Next, I worked on the tags that I wanted to tuck into those pockets! Starting with the adorable bird sitting on a flower (July’s Kit of the Month), I stamped him onto white cardstock with black ink and colored the bird and flower. Then I tore the paper around the bird and inked it up in shades of brown. I adhered the bird and a sentiment from the kit (which was also torn like the bird) over a tag from The Old Design Shop ephemera and finished with a ribbon. You can see the full bird tag by itself in the photo below!

I also chose 2 other tags from the Old Design Shop ephemera, inked up the edges and added ribbon. I added a 2nd sentiment (also torn and inked up) over the pocket. Then I placed all the tags into the pocket and finished by inking up around the card base. I also added glossy accents over the bird’s eye.

This may seem like a lot of work but, thanks to the ephemera tags and the patterned paper, it was easy! I’m so glad you stopped by today! To learn more about Unity’s Membership kits (and how you can save money each month), click here.
