Stamped Christmas Gift Tags You Can Make in an Afternoon

Stamped Christmas gift tags go fast when you stamp the Santa and a sentiment side by side, repeat for as many tags as you need, die cut them into arches, color, punch and tie. Gaylynn’s five tags use the A Little Ho Ho Ho stamp set with “Special delivery from the north pole”, “Have a holly jolly everything” and “HO HO HO”.

Gaylynn here. It is never too early to tackle handmade holiday gift tags, especially before the Christmas rush. It is simple to make multiples once you have the tag you like best.

For the main focus of this project, I used A Little Ho Ho Ho stamp and Scallops & Arches Dies. Use what you have on hand to get started. The full supply list, steps and video are below.

How to make the gift tags, step by step

  1. Stamp the Santa and a sentiment near each other onto a piece of smooth white cardstock using black alcohol-friendly ink.

  2. Repeat the stamping for the quantity of tags you want to make.

  3. Trim or die-cut the Santa and sentiment panels into a shape. I chose an arch shape.

  4. Color the tag stamping. I used Copic markers.

  5. Punch a hole at the top of each tag and tie with twine or cording.

  6. Layer and adhere a bottom border to each tag using die-cut scallops or a trim accent.

  7. Optionally, stamp and cut separate sentiment labels and adhere them to the tags.

Questions cardmakers ask

How many tags can I make in an afternoon?

Stamp all the Santas and sentiments first, then color them all, then cut, punch and tie. Working in stages like that, Gaylynn’s five took one short session; a couple dozen is realistic in an afternoon.

What ink should I stamp with if I am coloring with Copics?

A black alcohol friendly ink, so the lines do not bleed when the markers touch them. Gaylynn stamps on smooth white cardstock for the same reason.

What does the A Little Ho Ho Ho set say?

“Have a holly jolly everything”, “Special delivery from the north pole” and a stacked “HO HO HO”, plus the Santa gnome, about 2 by 2.5 inches.
