Hi friends! I don’t know about you, but I am in love with Unity’s stash of patterned paper! The Grit & Grace paper pad has some of the most beautiful designs I’ve seen yet! So, of course I had to make a card using this lovely paper! To shop their full line of patterned paper, click here.
First, I chose 2 sheets from the Grit & Grace paper pad that worked well together. One of the sheets had a bold pattern on it, and the 2nd sheet was more subtle. I chose one sheet with a bold, red flower on it and a 2nd sheet with abstract print on it. Next, I created a collage using these 2 sheets. I trimmed the abstract piece down to 5.5×4.25 and adhered it to a card base. Then I tore the bold piece with the flower down the middle at an angle and inked up the torn edge with black ink. I adhered that piece over the abstract one. You can see both sheets in the photo below, divided by the black ink!
Next, I inked up the edge of the entire card panel in black ink to draw the eye inward towards the design. I added a sentiment from a stash I had on hand, inking the edges of it in black ink to keep the grunge look consistent throughout. Then I added a ribbon using Tim Holtz Mummy Cloth, inking the top of it with black ink so it wasn’t so white. Below the ribbon I added another piece of random ephemera from my stash as well as silver sequins and a silver moon. So, in all, I’ve got paper, fabric, ephemera, and silver pieces in this card!
This card was very easy to put together because the design on the patterned paper stole the show! Below I’ve included tips to create a collage for your next card!
- Work with a set of patterned paper – all the coordinating has been done for you so, no matter what you choose, it will go well together on a card!
- Choose 3 sheets of patterned paper from the set of choice. One with a large bold design, one with a medium sized design, and one with a small design. For example, flowers, polka dots and stripes all work well together if the colors are coordinated in a pre-made set! You can choose two sheets like I did as well, and just do a bold design and a small design!
- Get creative and bold in your collages! Don’t hesitate to tear paper up or trim certain design elements from the paper to use on your card! Set the scraps aside for another card! Create layers upon layers!!!
- Try to keep the paper as your focal point. Add small details to compliment it such as ribbon, sentiments, ephemera, sequins.
