A Shore Thing

Happy Friday! Today’s blog isn’t the usual highlight of new stamps, but rather just some crafty fun I had with my stash. I wanted to make my younger self a birthday card for my upcoming birthday! I used the Patience Girl and the Beach Shore Stencil from the July 2024 Whit Kit to create this beach scene… since this week I am in ARUBA! So meet me at the shore…

I started by creating the background with the Beach Shore Stencil. I used Distress Inks.

Next, I stamped the Angie Girl on Copic friendly paper and colored her in using Copics.

  • E11, E53, E51, Y19, Y15, BG72, BG70, E99, E15, E13, E44, E43

Next, I fussy cut the girl out and placed her on the background. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment on the lower right hand corner. I matted this on black card stock before adhering it to a white card base to complete this summer time reminder that YOU ARE ENOUGH!

Get in the Picture

Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today with a little note for all of you during the holiday season: Get in the picture! As a mom, I constantly found myself trying to capture magical moments on film with my family. But looking back, I realized I was never in the pictures. And it’s not about taking selfies, but making sure that YOU are captured in those photos… and be part of those beautiful memories.

When I saw the new stamp, Juniper Girl, my first thought was taking a picture of her. I pulled out a very old die set and die cut a Polaroid. I stamped the inside square with Juniper Girl and colored it in using Copics and Distress Inks.

Copic markers used:  R27, R14, R08, YG99, YG97, YG95, E84, Y28, E43, C8, C6, C4, E15, E11

Distress inks used: Faded Jeans & Black Soot

I wanted to use a fun background but didn’t want a patterned paper, so I used navy card stock and a snowy embossing folder. It was a little boring, so I added a metallic rub-on to the raised parts of the embossed card stock. This added a subtle detail.

I love the sentiments in this stamp, but I really wanted to highlight the idea of getting in the picture. I used a sentiment sticker and a snowflake die. To highlight some details, I used a copper gel pen and die cut the snowflake from copper paper, tying it all together.

So please make the effort to get in the picture. Ask someone to take pictures of you. Make sure that you’re part of the memories being saved!

Paper Piecing with Whit’s Kit

Happy Friday, Unies! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog having some fun with the new September 2024 Whit Kit: Dream Chaser. This new kit comes with a beautiful stamp set, a natural cloud stencil, Fall Watercolor Splendor Paper Pack and masking sheets. Now let’s get inky!

I started by stamping the flowers on an white a2-sized card piece. Then I stamped the sentiment, making sure to leave room for the girl. Then, I die cut that scene with the deckled rectangle from the Deckle & Stitched Nesting Dies. Next, I stamped the girl and fussy cut her out. Last, I stamped the girl on the patterned paper and fussy cut her skirt an the ribbon on her hat.

I colored the girl and the flowers using Copics.

Copic colors used:  T10, T9, T7, T5, E53, E51, E44, E43, Y19, Y08, YR31, YG63, YG61, G94, C1

At this point I’m able to glue the fussy cut patterned paper to the fussy cut girl.  I then used washi tape to hold her to the full stamped image and die cut it again using deckle die. This allows for the edge of her legs to match the edge of the front.

From there, I used the cloud stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to create the sky. Next, I glued the girl on the front aligning the legs to the bottom. Then I die cut another patterned paper using the stitched deckled die.

Lastly, I adhered it all to a bright yellow. card base. Aren’t those clouds realistic?  This kit is full of ideas, and you don’t need to incorporate the flowers.  In fact, I think this girl would. look great using the beach stencil from the August Whit Kit.

Layers of Merry Mingle

Happy Friday and Happy Brown Thursday {Week 2}!!! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today sharing the new Merry Mingle stamp with lots of dimension.  This is one of my most favorite techniques when making cards.  Let’s get inky!

To start, I stamp the beautiful girl and the sentiment and die cut it using the Scallop & Stitched Rectangle Nesting Dies. I wasn’t sure how many layers I was going to do so I ended up coloring her dress, but I didn’t have to.  On the base, I colored the outline of the image and her legs as those would not be layered.  I used a holly stencil to add some color to the blank background.  I then stamped the girl two more times: one I fussy cut her out without the legs and the other without the dress and legs. I like to color the edge of whatever is going to be covered so when it’s seen from the side, it looks like it’s colored.

Another thing that helps, use a black Memento to color the edge of your fussy cut images. This covers the whit core of your paper and makes the image pop.  I used think foam squares on the back of the fussy cut pieces to avoid too much bulk on the card front.

This photo at this angle, you probably don’t notice the dimension, but wait until you see it from the side!

Her dress comes to life with just a little foam tape.  She starts to come alive right on the card.

Decided to add a little shimmer with a glitter pen and used a little splatter all around to make this Merry Mingle image a little more magical.

Additional ideas:

  • You can solely fussy cut the gift and make that the focal point.
  • Cover the gift with something else… small dried flowers, a gift card or have her hold something fun to gift away.
  • Paper piece the dress with a beautiful pattern.
  • Use tule for the dress.

Monthly Challenge Inspo Fall Leaves!

Hello Unies,

We all love Angie girls, and this new one had me all in my fall feels.   Ava girl, is the  newest Angie girl.   I really enjoy making fall leaves for my cards, its therapeutic in a way.  Today I’ll share how to make some delightful fall leaves.

The how!

You’ll want to use the bristol smooth paper for this project.   Watercolor paper also works just make sure it’s a heavy stock.   First step is to spray the bristol smooth with Crackling Campfire distress spray, I go in a triangle Then spray the white spots with the Rustic Wilderness.   At this point you can leave it or marry the two by spraying a little water.   It’s okay with this project if you create a little mud since leaves have brown.  Go light with the water at first.  dab off any pulling or let dry as is.  I do both.   I do let it air dry before this step I’ll hit the panel with distress mica spray I did the wicked elixir over the green areas and the bronze over the whole panel.  set this aside to dry. (or dry with the heat it tool) 

Once fully dry place your die (Tims 660955) and cut. you need to make sure it’s fully dry for this or your paper will tear.   Repeat this till there is no more space.

 

 

 

 

They always turn out different, and I just love them so much.   (handy tip, any extra throw them in with the dies, then you’ll know where they are and have them for later)

You are Everything (Partial Stenciling)

Happy Friday, crafty friends! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today sharing a card for those exceptional women in our lives!  As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s a great time to build your card stash to celebrate the women who mean everything to everyone.  This card is dedicated to them!

This card features the new kit:  The Very Best Gal, that can customize any woman in your life.  I paired it with Aleah Girl and gave her a little natural grey look.  To add to the background, I used the Plaid Builder Stencil set to connect the colors.

Copic Colors:

  • Hair:  T5, T3, T0
  • Skin:  E31, E53, E51, R01
  • Sweater: E44, E43, E42
  • Under Shirt:  B41, B21
  • Pants:  BG99, BG96, BG93
  • Boots:  E89, E87, E84

Distress Colors:  Tumbled Glass & Bundled Sage

To create the background, I started by stamping the titles my friend has:  Aunt, Sister, Grandma and Mother.  Then I line up the stencil over the image and secured it with washi tape.  I started by using the Tumbled Glass Distress ink and avoiding the words.

Using the second stencil, I lined up the first color and added the Bundled Sage.  In order to create the plaid look, you now how to do the same procedure vertically.

For the vertical version, I used the same two Distress Inks.  Once done, I found to other pieces of colored card stock to layer under the stamped background.

Now for Aleah, I colored a fussy cut her out.  Using foam tape, I adhered her to the left side of the words.  I then stamped and die cut the phrase from The Very Best Gal stamp kit and adhered it using foam tape again.

Lastly, I adhered it all to a white card base.  So if you’re making a card for an amazing aunt or gorgeous grandma, you know you can use this kit to customize any of your cards.  And if you’ve a special guy… check out The Very Best Guy stamp kit too!

Queen Girl Birthday ~ March Sketch Challenge

 Hello there crafty friend!
Crystal here from Tawny Owl Paperie sharing more inspiration for the Unity March Sketch Challenge that I’m hosting in the Unity Show & Tell Facebook group. I’m sharing a sweet birthday card featuring another new release called Queen Girl. So excited for a new Angie Girl!!

 

Happy Birthday Queen Girl

I just had to pair up the beautiful Queen Girl with the pretty Birthday Party {paper pack}. They were made for each other and combined with the March Sketch this was a super easy card to create.

 

The background of balloons is a pretty pattern paper from the paper pack that I die cut with the largest rectangle die from the Scallops & Rectangles {nesting dies}. It’s adhered to a pretty purple card front measuring 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″.

 

Queen Girl was stamped with Black Amalgam ink and then colored up with Copic markers. Here’s a quick list of the Copic markers I used to color up this beautiful new girl:
Skin ~ E000, E00, E11, E04
Hair ~ E21, E23, E27
Purple Balloon ~ V000, V12, V22
Pink Balloon ~ RV000, RV10, RV13, RV14, R81, R85
Shirt ~ Y000, Y11, Y06

 

This time I used a square die for my focal image but it was way too big and would have covered most of the pretty balloon papers so I cut it. Pretty much making it a rectangle and keeping with the sketch. I did omit the rounded corners though since I used the Scallops & Squares {nesting dies} to die cut my panel layers.

Bonus Card

 

Also sharing a BONUS card!! For this one I used the adorable new bunny stamp called Hoppy Notes and I paired it up with the beautiful Kindness is Magic {paper pack}. I also used the Scallops & Circles {nesting dies} to die cut my main panels. Rather than doing a sentiment strip across the card I just stamped my sentiment under the image. I think it turned out pretty cute.
