Card foiling tutorial & negative foiling ~ 2 cards

Hello, Gaylynn here.  Card foiling is double the fun by using negative foiling for a second card.  Today, on the Unity blog, I am sharing two cards using toner card fronts with foil and a laminator.  I go an extra step to show a way to use the negative of the first foiling plus added double foiling.

Making a set of foiled cards is easier using negative foiling.  An added bonus is double foiling.  Here is a look at how it is done.

Here is the moth toner card front with the first foiling pass using a gold shattered glass foil sheet.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for making this card set using negative foiling.  To begin, pre-trim or die-cut the toner card fronts and the black toner sheet to desired sizes.  Also, stamp, color and prepare sentiment tags for each of the cards.  Next, preheat your laminator.  Then, trim one gold foil sheet and one purple foil sheet a little larger than the panels that you are foiling on.  And, have a carrier sheet ready, like a smooth folded piece of parchment paper.  Next, sandwich the toner card front face up and then the gold foil sheet pretty side up between the parchment paper.  Then, run this sandwich through the hot laminator and then gently remove the gold foil.  Next, repeat the process but use a black toner sheet plus the negative of the gold.  You should get a gold background with the moths in black.  If you want the moths another color, foil once more using purple or another color.  Finally, assemble the cards, to finish.

 

Here is a second card made after using the negative of the first moth sheet along with an added third pass using negative foiling in purple foil.

Also, iCraft Deco Foil in amethyst watercolor & gold shattered glass, Deco Foil black toner sheets; flat and foam double-sided tape, My Creative Time rectangle frame die layers, My Favorite Things extreme black hybrid ink pad and stitched mini scallop circle STAX die-namics; gold glitter paper, original Misti, Yourstory laminator, parchment paper, Copic markers YR09, YR04, YR14.

Winter card duo

 

Hi everyone, Laurel here with a couple of winter themed cards for you. I LOVE creating winter cards, I think they are my most favorite. I have really been having fun with shaker cards lately so I have included one today.

Both cards have the same basic layout and stamps but vary in complexity. I have used the It’s a Tradition SMAK kit along with the Memories Made. I’m kind of a sucker when it comes to vintage winter sleds so the Memories Made was a must have for me.

For this first card, I stamped one of the background images from the SMAK kit right onto the pattern paper. I love the vintage feel it gives. Next, I  layered a die cut snowflake border and added some messy threads for interest.  Finally, topped it off with the Memories Made image.

For the sentiment on both cards I embossed on vellum with some white embossing powder. I used to emboss all of the time, and then went away from it. Slowly, it has been sneaking it’s way back onto my projects lately. What about you?

Next up, after creating the above card, I thought the sled would look great against a shaker background so I created one. The rest of the process was the same.

Combining stamp sets for a Remembrance/Veterans Day card.

 

Hi everyone, Laurel here. In Canada we have had Thanksgiving so I have begun my Christmas/holiday prep.  However,  in honor of Remembrance or Veterans Day I have a card to share today.

I love my KOTM and SMAK kits thus, when I want to create any project, I  dig though them first. How many of these kits do you have? When I say dig I mean dig… and I have said it before – if you don’t subscribe to the kits – you need to! They always come in handy!

The poppies in the Never Be Afraid KOTM were perfect so I based my card around them. Although it is hard to tell, this pattern paper is a world map so I knew that I had to use it. I then stamped the brick background from the Unleash Your Happy SMAK kit.

Having spent time in the small towns of Normandy France, one thing that stands out to me is the visible damage to the still standing buildings. Hence I wanted to include bricks of some sort on my card.

I then stamped the poppies onto the background paper and again on red cardstock. I cut out just the poppies from the cardstock and adhered to the card. A couple of them are mounted on foam squares to add some dimension and interest.

The sentiment is from the Quiet Essence stamp set. I stamped it, cut it apart then stitched it on – once again, to add more interest to the card.

As a final touch I just added some washi tape and staples.

Now let’s all remember those soldiers that fought for us and continue to fight…and of course may there one day be peace in the world!

Last Minute Hallowe’en Gift Ensemble

Hi everyone, Laurel here. I thought I had finished with Halloween.  However, I realized I needed a little gift for someone soooo…. what better time than to give them a little Trick or Treat package because they are ‘spooktacular’?! 😉

I have used a few stamp sets and one of them of course is a real favourite of mine… Bottled Up Boos.  I love the name and how fun it is to use!

First I created the little treat box using the Bottled Up Boos set. I love to add little hanging bits when I tie up a package, it just adds more interest and is so easy to do. I just stamped a couple of the stamps onto pattern paper, punched out, added a hole and then adhered to the twine. Easy peesy, but just adds so much more don’t you think?

After creating the package, I needed a coordinating card so I reached for my Jane Girl. She is so much fun to colour and paper piece. Oh… and she is ON SALE so be sure to nab her!

Well she had to be ‘dressed’ up a little so I added the die cut hat to her. I then mounted her on foam squares for dimension.

The sentiment is from the Cozy Moments (Aug 2013 KOTM) which, if you don’t have in your stash, you need to get!  There are so many fun stamps on it… don’t you think?!

Every Leaf Speaks Bliss to Me

Hey everyone, happy Friday. We just had Thanksgiving here in Canada and I must say I feel very blessed… but next on my agenda will be getting Halloween stuff and start creating Halloween themed projects.

However, I love fall and HAD to get the Every Leaf Speaks Bliss stamp set as that is one of my favorite fall quotes. So although I ready to get going on Halloween, I’m savoring my fall stuff 🙂

I have a simple card to share today using the Every Leaf Speaks Bliss stamp set.

The first thing I did was to create the background. I just simply water colored some subtle brush strokes and splattered slightly. I love this look for clean cards as it just adds more interest. I then stamped the sentiment.

For the leaves I used the Fall for You stamp set. Do you own this set? It is such an adorable fall themed set,  I have had this one around since it first came out. The leaves were fun to stamp, paper piece and cut out. I added some messy threads then adhered the leaves over top.

 

As a final touch I stitched the leaves down and then tied on some twine. Isn’t it a fun look?

Back to school themed card

You know… I’m a sucker for anything school themed (perhaps because I’m a teacher – or am I a teacher because I’m a sucker for supplies?!)

Anyways, I love creating back to school projects. Each year I try to tuck a card into a few of my coworkers mailboxes just wishing them good luck with their new classes.  Thus, I need some back to school cards.

Today I am sharing my first card.  Apples… I love apples for teacher projects so the Apple Stamping stamp set is one of my go tos.

I then, as always search through my stash for items to go along with the apple and teacher theme.

The Learning Year by Year is a perfect match – rulers, tabbed file, sentiments….

To create the card, I first layered on a die cut background and stitched it on. I then decided on the placement of the cluster and started layering.

I added some black washi to bring the feel of a chalkboard, some staples because well… school and of course the paper clip with twine is a final touch.

Mixing and matching elements to create a themed card

 

Hi everyone, I am back and this week I have created a card…. in one of my favorite themes… teacher/school.  I am sure being a teacher has me a little bias to these types of cards 😉

When I have decided to create a themed project, I like to dig through my stash and see what I have that carries out the theme.  In this case for school – primary colors, apple, staples, paper clips…. you get the idea.

To start off… I am a sucker for text… so I stamped the Giving it All Meaning all over onto a white piece of cardstock as the background.

I started with another favorite of mine… the ‘Grade School Tablet which I wanted to mimic a chalkboard so I stamped and embossed it in white on black cardstock.  Once I had that done, I just went to work layering various bits and pieces.  The file folder tucked in the back is from the Learning Year by Year stamp set.

The ruler is from the Ruler Background stamp set and the apple is the Apple Stamping set – love this… have used it several times – one of my favorites was stamping it on a burlap bag.

Of course… to top it off, seems right to have an Angie Girl – I have used the Moving Forward stamp set.

To carry out the theme, I added a stamped sentiment held on with a paper clip and I tucked in some notebook punched pattern paper.  Finally, the die cut teacher sentiment for the finishing touch.
