Happy New Year graphic card making

Hello and welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn.  Happy New Year, friends.  Here’s wishing you and yours the very best in the New Year. Today’s project features festive celebration greetings and graphic card making using icons to ring in the new year.

I used the Resolutions rubber stamps & dies, plus the pack of Resolutions 6×6 patterned paper. The full supply list is below.

To begin, here is a look at today’s project.
Sentiment: Cheers. What Resolution? Happy New Year.

 

 

Helpful Tips:

  1. Precut and score a white A2-sized card base for a vertical card 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

  2. Trim smooth white cardstock for stamping.

  3. Stamp the sentiments and icons onto the white cardstock using black ink and/or metallic gold ink.

  4. Die-cut the sentiment and icons.

  5. Die-cut or trim a background layer using a geometric cover plate. Cut once on white cardstock and another time onto patterned paper. Save the pieces.

  6. Adhere the patterned paper cover frame onto the card base.

  7. Fill the frame with a mix of white and patterned paper cuts, fitting them into the proper shape sections.

  8. Adhere the stamped sentiments and icons onto some of the white sections.

Layering stencils and silver stamped balloons

Welcome to Technique Time with Gaylynn.  Layering stencils and silver stamping are easy card making techniques.  I combined the two with a Unity stamp and stencil set for this shimmering celebration card.

The sentiment can easily be changed to work for other occasions.

Here is a look at the card in direct light.  I tried to capture the shimmer of the metallic silver stamping on the balloons and the sentiment.

Sentiment:  Hooray

Helpful Tips:

First, onto a large sheet of smooth white cardstock, stamp the balloon background using silver metallic ink.  Then, set the metallic stamping with either clear embossing or spraying the panel with workable fixative.

Next, stencil one color at a time using one layering stencil at a time.  Also, try matching up the stenciling to the stamping before ink blending.  I used dye ink for the ink blending but distress ink is another option.  Also, heat set everything then trim or die-cut the card front layer.

Easy New Year wine card – pretty papers

Hi and welcome.  Gaylynn here.  Welcome.  For today, I am sharing an easy New Year wine card for fun and festive wishes.

Actually, this was easier to make than it seems.  Just some paper and a bit of color.

Sentiment:  Happy New Year

Helpful tips:
In summary, to make this easy New Year wine card, begin by trimming patterned paper for the background and accents.  Then, die-cut or stamp the sentiment.  Next, stamp the bottle and the glass on white cardstock using alcohol friendly ink.  Also, add a touch of color to the stamping.  I used Copic markers, but use what you have.  Then, fussy cut (cut out) the bottle and the glass.  Finally, using a mix of glue, flat and foam double-sided tape, layer it all onto the card base, to finish.

Mixed media stamping and embossing Paris themed.

Hello, it’s Gaylynn. Today, I am sharing my layered card with mixed media stamping and embossing.  This one has a Paris theme with the Eiffel Tower as the focus.  It is a sneak peek of the release happening Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Unity.


I added layered stamping as well as the frame and the embossed texture in the background.

Helpful tips:
In summary, to make this card, begin by preparing an A2-sized card base in white.  Next, make an embossed background with texture by adding dry embossing.  Use a coordinating die-cutting machine for use with an embossing folder.  Then, lightly add shimmer to the raised embossed texture, using embossing or embellishment paste and a flat foam applicator.   Also, allow that shimmer layer to dry completely.  Next, stamp layers of background elements along with the Eiffel tower to create a vintage look.  Then, color the stamped panel.  I used Copic markers with copic friendly ink for stamping. Trim or die-cut an oval shape around the stamping and another for a frame layer.  Finally, layer the embossed panel over the card base followed by the framed stamping and embellishments, to finish.

Emboss resist with Brusho watercolor + Copics

Hello, it’s Gaylynn.  Today, I am sharing a watercolor birthday card using emboss resist with Brusho watercolor plus added Copic coloring.

This is a vibrant celebration card, perfect for birthdays and more.  The emboss resist with Brusho watercolor really pops.

Sentiment:  Hip Hip Hooray.

Helpful tips:

These are helpful tips for making this card using emboss resist with Brusho watercolor powders.  To begin, stamp and heat emboss the background in white onto watercolor paper.  Next, die-cut or trim panels for the sentiment and the girl.  Also, stamp the girl and the sentiment with waterproof ink.  Then, color in the girl.  I used Copic markers.  Next, onto a waterproof craft mat, spritz the embossed background panel with water.  Then, carefully sprinkle the watercolor powder over the water until you get the desired color saturation.  Be sure to protect all surfaces, hands and craft areas from getting stained.  Next, blot any puddles and then heat set or leave out to dry overnight.  Finally,  trim and add all layers onto the card base, to finish.

Gold watercolor background celebration gnome card tutorial

Hi, Gaylynn here. For Technique Time at Unity, I share ways to make a gold watercolor background and a festive celebration look to this gnome card.

For this card, I made gold watercolor background accents and a touch of watercolor on the front panel.  This creates nice shimmer card accents.  It is perfect for Happy New Year, birthday cards and more.

Sentiment:  Party like it’s gnome body’s business.

Helpful tips:

Here are helpful tips for creating this gold watercolor background gnome card.  To begin, stamp and trim a card front panel.  Also, color in the gnome stamping.  Next, trim a black or dark background cardstock panel to fit the card base.  Then, mix gold shimmer watercolor with water and also mix a silver or white watercolor.  Next, using a wide paint brush, brush gold watercolor in stripes along the long edge of the background panel.  Then, add gold watercolor to the gnome’s hat using a narrow paint brush.  Also, add a mask over the gnome & the glass and then splatter gold watercolor over the gnome panel.  Then, splatter the background panel with gold splatter and then splatter white or silver watercolor over the gnome’s hat.  Finally, assemble the card, to finish.

Let’s Party Girls!!

I’m so not even close to done with Christmas cards, but maybe I’ll just work on sending out cards for New Years!? ????????‍♀️ Hey everyone! It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and boy do I miss happy hour with friends!  I recently pulled out this oldie, but goodie set from the Fashionistas line called “Party Girls.”  These two sophisticated girls are ready to paint the town red and celebrate… and we’re all going to celebrate when 2020 is OVER!

Making this card was pretty simple.  I stamped the girls and colored them in using Copics.  For fun accents, I used a gold pen on the girl in the blue dress to add sequins to her top and make her shoes gold.  I used a silver pen on the belt buckle of the girl in the two piece suit.

Next I stamped the script “cheers” from the “Heart of Christmas” Sentiment Stamp Set using VersaFine ink.  I embossed it with clear embossing powder to make it stand out.  Once dry, I stamped the “Happy New Year” from the same “Heart of Christmas” set.

Last, using distress ink, I shaded the edges before die cutting it and layering it on black card stock before adhering it on the blush card base.  Let’s not forget to send some celebratory cards to friends and family and start the new year with positivity and good vibes!
