Framed Floral

Happy Friday!  It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog and this weekend is going to bloom with the new Bougainvillea floral stamp kit.  This stunning floral was designed by Graciellie Design and brought to you in red rubber by Unity Stamp Company.  This floral was something I had never seen, but when I googled the images, it’s truly a beautiful and colorful plant. So it’s no surprise that there is an equally colorful paper pack to match called Bougainvillea Trellis.  Now, let’s get into some stamping fun!

To start, I stamped this beautiful new floral and colored it with Copic markers. I wanted to go for that vibrant pink and soft greens.

Copic Colors: R39 RV19, RV17, RV55, RV52, G24, G21, YG61, E44

Once done coloring, I fussy cut the image leaving a white border.  Next, I stamped a separate piece of white card stock with the Love & Wisdom Background stamp.  I love the look of this script background.  I die cut it using the Scallops & Stitched Rectangles Nesting Dies. Using Picked Raspberry Distress ink, I splattered a similar pink to the background to add a little grunge look to the background.

I wanted to highlight the floral, but not cover the background, so I used a frame die to create a focal point without coverage. Tucking in the root, this made the floral look like it’s blooming from the frame. I then stamped the sentiment with white pigment ink on black card stock and tucked it behind the floral but above the frame.  I added another layer of black card stock and matted it onto the card base to create a positive card for a friend.

Popped up window frame graphic card

Hello, Gaylynn here.  Today, I am sharing a graphic birthday card with a popped up window frame.  This is great for anyone.


This birthday card is a quick and easy card with just a few steps, yet still has a wow factor.  I kept it simple and generic for anyone.

Sentiment:  Happy Birthday

Helpful tips:
Here are helpful tips for making this graphic style popped up window frame card.  To begin, prepare an A2 size card base from kraft or color cardstock.  Next, onto teal cardstock, stamp the background using a darker teal color.  Then, trim the background panel a bit smaller than the card base.  Also, die-cut a small window in the center of the stamped background panel.  Next, die-cut the two sentiments, or stamp them to fit one inside the window.  Then, add foam tape to the back of the background panel.  Also, position and place the birthday die-cut onto the card front, but inside the window opening.  And, glue the happy to the front of the background panel.  Finally, carefully layer the frame over the card base, then add stars to finish.

Only Imagine

Happy Friday, Unity Friends!  It’s Jules of Paper Gems by Jules back on the blog to share something a little different.  As much as I love making cards, I also like being creative… imaginative.  So when I came across this pretty little image from a 2015 release called “Only Imagine”, I instantly thought of a vintage photo.  I intended to make a card, but I thought just a metallic frame would be just enough to capture this girls beauty.

Originally, this started as a no-line coloring image and I stamped it with Ink on 3s Fade Out Ink.

Using only the warm grey Copic markers, I started with the darkest W10.  Gently feathering the marker to make subtle highlights, I started at the top of her head and the tips of her hair.

Next, I used the W8 and pulled from the darker areas toward the thicker areas of hair.

Continuing the same process, I normally use every other color (ie. W10, W8, W6, W4…) when blending out.  Because I was using only the warm greys, I I had to use much lighter colors for the skin and accessories to that it didn’t all blend in.  And although I like the look of no-line coloring… I just wasn’t feeling it.

So once I was finished coloring the image, I stamped the image again using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink. By keeping the stamp in place in my Misti and completing all the Copic coloring, you could use VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink to get the darkest black ink with all the detail and not risk damaging my Copics.

Once I was done, I found a random chipboard frame and used black gesso to color it and then used a metallic champagne paint to color the frame.  After drying it with my heat gun, I laid it over the image and traced it so that I could cut the excess paper easily.  Using double sided tape, I adhered the image to the painted frame and added some Rangers Stickles for a little extra detail.

I may just put a magnet on the back and have her in my craft room or gift her to a beautiful friend.  Either way, this little beauty is a wonderful addition to your stash.  I encourage you to search the Unity Stamp Co. website for hidden gems like this one.  Feel free to comment what you find that you hadn’t noticed before, but LOVE!
