Simply Natural One Sheet Wonder

Happy Friday!  It’s Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules back on the blog sharing a fun “one sheet wonder” techniqe using the beautiful Simply Blessed {stamp & paper} Bundle currently available!  But even if you don’t have this stamp set or this paper pack,  you can use this fun technique to create a set of cards with any of your 6″ x 6″ patterned papers.  Let’s get crafty…

We will be taking that one patterned 6″ x 6″ cotton image to create four cards with different looks and sentiments. This is a great way to make gift sets of cards for friends and family or even to make several cards for future use. It’s also a great way to make use all that beautiful paper that we seem to hoard. I also used some of the other more solid colored paper from this pack to mat the cuts.  You’ll see this in the final steps.

Here are the dimensions of how I cut that one piece of 6″ x 6″ patterned paper.  This is just one way to cut yours.  And truthfully, you can make 5 cards with these 5 pieces, but really was not feeling the small square all by itself, so I paired it with the smaller rectangle. You can find lots of other ideas on Pinterest as well for more inspiration.

Once the pattered paper was cut, I matted each on white card stock, and then used the brown patterned paper to mat them as well.  I measured each 1/4″ taller and wider for each layer.  Now, let’s make cards.

Using the first 2″ x 4″ piece, I paired it with the Scallop & Circles Nesting dies and stamped the floral image and a sentiment from the Simply Blessed stamp kit.  Again, keeping this very clean and simple and using brown inks to keep with the color scheme.

Using the 2.5″ x 4″ piece, I centered it and paired it with the Scallop & Stitched Sentiment Nesting Dies along with a sentiment from the Simply Blessed Stamp Kit.  I opted not to use the scalloped die to just keep the same straight lines like the other cuts and I didn’t want to cover any more of the pretty patterned paper.

Using the second 2″ x 4″ piece paired with the Dashes and Frills Hearts die set and another sentiment.  These sentiments fit perfectly into many of the new die sets by Unity so make sure to try them out!

And for this last card, I paired the two smaller cuts: the 1.5″ x 4″ and 2″ x 2″ pieces. I layered them over each other and still centered them over the card front. I ended up trimming down white card stock for the sentiment to avoid covering up the pretty patterned paper again.

Can you believe that just one piece of patterned 6″ x 6″ paper can create these beautiful cards? And it’s such a great way to mass produce cards to gift away for those non-card making friends.

Time to Let Grow

Hi Unity Friends!  Last week I shared a bridal shower card I made using the beautiful new Love & Wisdom Background stamp.  Today I’m sharing how I made use of the other half of that beautiful background.  This card was made as a form of therapy.  Today I felt sad. It happens once in a while.  I can logically say that I’m okay and everything is fine, but the feeling was there and I chose to create as a form of therapy.  I hope that you can relate.

I started by looking or a stamp set that had a sentiment that could express how I felt.  The gorgeous Graciellie Design’s “Time to Let Go” just spoke to me.  I needed to reassure myself that although crafting isn’t the most popular thing in my circle, it makes ME happy.  And that is valuable!  I had pieces from other project just sitting there and I wanted to make use of them.  Part of me wanted to make something that seemed to be partial (like scraps) whole again.   I took the left over piece from my last card using the Love & Wisdom Background stamp and chose to build on it.

This card wasn’t going to be bright and cheery, because I wasn’t feeling that.  I started by coloring the girl in colors that looks more like me.  Brown eyes and brown hair.  Basic, but me.  I colored the flowers. in grey, but wanted to add a little bit of life so I added a super light shade of Pale Grape.  It was softs and subtle and a little sad… it was the emotion I felt in this creative moment.

I layered the scrap from Love & Wisdom and layered it on a soft lilac piece of scrap and layered this beautiful girl over the edge.  The sentiment is everything.

“Never be afraid to do the things that make you feel free.”

I needed to read this.  I needed to hear this.  I needed to say this.  Creating is an emotional outlet.  It allows me to color something outside of me that I feel inside.  The images inspire me and they pass the creative baton to me and I need to run with it.  We cannot be afraid to be creative.  We need to share our love for art in every form.

I encourage you all to share you feelings and share you love of art.   Let your heart flow through your art.  And when you create, make sure to share it in any group that brings you joy… because we all want to see your heart.

Sprinkled With Love

With just over a week before Valentine’s Day, I wanted to sprinkle some love on your weekend!  Hi everyone! This is Jules of Paper Gems by Jules and today I’m making a fun Valentine’s Day card for a friend using the “Sweet Sprinkled Donut” stamp set designed by Graciellie Designs.  This sweet stamp comes with 3 fun sentiments that work for more than just Valentine’s Day!

The Copic colors I used to make this tasty treat are as follows:

Donut:  E35, E55 & E31
Icing:  RV23, RV21& RV10
Sprinkles on Donut: RV09, RV29 and white gel pen.

For the background, I used a fun stencil and Candied Apple, Worn Lipstick and Gathered Twigs Distress Oxides.  And I love that oxides allow the colors to be layers without mixing them up and making a mess.

I used brown washi tape to divide the card front and add the sentiment using VersaFine Clair in Acorn.  To coordinate a little more, I layered this on brown card stock, then white and onto a bright red card base.  And the heart shaped donut was adhered using foam tape.  Super easy… and so delightful!

Love from Above

Someone once told me that when a cardinal visits, they carry the wishes of a loved one that has passed.  This image warms my heart thinking I can send this love from above to anyone.  Hi everyone! It’s Jules of Paper Gems by Jules sharing this new stamp designed by Graciellie Designs called “Live for Today.”  This beautiful bird can be colored in many ways, but I wanted it to be a cardinal.

I stamped this image on Neenah Desert Storm card stock and colored it with rich reds (Copic: R89, R29, R27, R24).  I added a little Copic E87 on the tips of the feathers to add a little more detail.  Once the image was colored and die cut, I added some Gathered Twigs Distress Ink on the edges.  Now, to make this a winter card, I used a simple gel pen to add dots of snow and little fluff of snow on this beautiful bird.

When I see this bird, I think of some of the the loved ones that we have lost in the years prior.  It brings me warmth and comfort knowing they might be flying by to see me.  I hope you all know that our cards can bring those feelings of love and joy so please, make sure you know the good you bring into this world.

Hello Lovely Poppy

Hello Lovelies!!
I hope you have had a great week and had a chance to check out our new stamp arrivals!! Have you seen the new Poppy stamp from Graciellie Designs? It is so versatile and can be used as a happy, sad or “just because” card.

I started this 4.25 x 5.5 top folding card with the white card base. I used the Honeycomb Crafter’s Companion 3D embossing folder and used a Micron black pen and ruler for the stitching.

 

Next, I die cut the “hello lovely” (Reverse Confetti) sentiment three times. Once out of copper card stock ( Love Nicole from AC Moore) and twice more out of heavy white card stock. Connect glue comes in handy when you want to align the letters; it gives you some time to move it into the right position.

Then the poppy! I stamped it with Gina K Obsidian Amalgam Ink and cut it out all along the flower and leaf. The leaf was easy to color with Copics YG23, YG07, YG17. I started with the lightest color, YG07 all over and then the other two colors for the darker edges.

The poppy itself needed some more shades, Y08, YR07, YR18, YR23 and YR24. I colored the whole poppy with Y08. I used the “tip-to-tip” technique to stretch the colors I have, and to achieve the colors I don’t have in my stash. The YR18 is too dark but I like the orange. So, I took the Y08 pen and touched the tip of the YR18 to get a yellow/orange color. This technique also makes the brush strokes wispy. Work your way all the way around and use the YR23 where the shadows would fall.

To finish the card, I used a gem brad and placed it in the middle of the poppy. Use a white Gel pen to highlight the ridges of the pedals. Place double sided tape under the poppy and adhere to the white base. Use a T-ruler to line up the “hello lovely” and Connect glue to place the letters.

Tropical Vibes & Masking Magic

Hi, friends! Whit here showing off a stamp set and a card I am obsessing over.

I’m not sure if it was the winter that felt like it lasted 20 years or what.. but I am drawn to all things tropical! Tropical colors, drinks, and of course STAMPS. So we asked Gracie of Graciellie Designs to come up this new Tropical Stamp Set called- Time to Refresh.

It’s amazing for creating layered looks with florals. They stamp out perfectly-– and they are super fun to color up!

Today I am going to be showing you how to create a tropical inspired card with repeat stamping and some masking! Masking is such a great way to get new and different looks out of your stamps. You’re going to want this stuff, trustttttt.

So without further ado– here’s the video: 

 

Okay.. so are you feeling quite tropical after seeing that stamp set in action, or what? It’s a must have!

 

Despite all of the stamping being on one layer.. the masking helps to create what looks like layers when we stamp the leaves over the top. Seriously so fun!

 

And of course.. no project is complete without a little sparkle. I had to use my favorite confetti sequins in Aurora Borealis.

Watercolor Outline Boot Cards

Good morning! Heather here with a fun trio of watercolor cards using Sassy Boots with a Melody paired up with sentiments from a couple different Graciellie Designs stamp sets – He Will Sustain You and You Matter {start loving yourself}

Here is this week’s video showing how these all came together:

Not only do I love watercolors – I really love using them to color around an image, especially when it is as lovely and intricate as this one! I think it just makes the image pop so much, and has a great impact!

I’m also particularly fond of mixing and matching sentiments from other stamp sets – I think it really helps stretch and make your stamps more versatile.

These cards area also nice and flat and easy to mail – I die cut the watercolor panels with a simple stitched rectangle die, then mounted them on white cardbases, so they are nearly one layer cards.

I also seem to be addicted to making card sets! I love how easy it is to make more than one card at the same time – and you get so much more for almost the same effort! Especially when the coloring is so quick and easy like these cards. Which color combo do you like best?
