Hello and welcome to the Unity blog.  It’s Gaylynn. Sometimes, simply layered cards present the focal image perfectly. This cute pup looks perfect in these simple paper layers. The technique focus is colored pencils on kraft color cardstock. It was simple to make this.

This card project features fun Unity Stamp Company stamps called Pawty Law No. 1 stamps. To create this card, use stamps, colored pencils, die-cutting and patterned paper. I include project tips, a short video and supplies below.

 

To begin, here is a look at the finished card.
Sentiment:   Happy Birthday. You make life a little sweeter.

Helpful tips:

  • Prepare a horizontal A2 card base in white.
  • Stamp the pup from Pawty Law No. 1 stamps and the sentiment onto different pieces of kraft-colored cardstock.
  • Color the pup scene using colored pencils that coordinate with the paper layers.
  • Die-cut a rectangle background from rectangle dies and from patterned paper and white and kraft color oval layers from oval dies.
  • Die-cut the sentiment using sentiment nesting dies.
  • Optionally, die-cut a paper bow.
  • Using flat and foam double-sided tape, layer everything onto the card front.

Celebrating with Whit’s Kit!

Happy Friday! This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog ready to celebrate Whit’s birthday with this amazing May 2025 Whit Kit and all the goodies it comes with. I used all the fun stuff in this kit and few from my stash to make these two pretty in pink birthday cards, so let’s get this party started!

Let’s start with the fun patterned paper pack “Yay, it’s Today.” This paper pack has 28 sheets & 14 different designs to choose from to create so many fun and festive crafts. I trimmed one sheet to 3.875″ x —. I also trimmed a deep pink card stock to 4.125″ x 5.375″ and die cut 5 of the solid candles in the middle of that bright pink, but trimmed the wicks off.

Using both the solid and patterned candle dies, I die cut 5 of each in white card stock. The solid layer is for the base: I color the back wick orange with a Copic. On top of that, I add the pink layer. Next, I add the white patterned one and color the flame yellow with a Copic.

Once the candles are assembled, I die cut the Happy Birthday using the same pink piece. All of these cuts will be covered up by the patterned paper. This is a great way to make use of your card stock and make sure you have enough of your coordinating colored card stock.

Last, I found some yellow card stock and used the Scallop & Stitched Circle dies to die cut a stitched circle with the yellow card stock and a scalloped circle using vellum. I layered those to ground the candles on the card and added the Happy Birthday below. Sprinkled some sequins and this birthday card is ready to party! Let’s make another one!

For this next card, I started with white card stock and the polkadot stencil. Using Kitsch Flamingo Distress ink, I colored in the festive background. In some spots I used a little Picked Raspberry, but it’s very subtle.

Next, using the Scallop & Stitched Banner dies, I die cut each layer in different shades of pink, leaving the lighter shade to stamp on. I did trim the scalloped layer so that the top would be flush against the top of the border of the polkadot layer. Next, I stamped the Happy Birthday stamp from the kit using VersaFine Clair ink Nocturne.

I stamped the cake from the stamp kit and colored it using Copics, then fussy cut it out. Using foam tape, I adhered it to the banner and centered everything to the card base. For final details, I added some iridescent sequins. And we’re ready for yet another partyyyyy!

Happy Birthday, Ang!

Let’s all wish our very own, Angela Magnuson a happy birthday!  Can you believe that this stunningly beautiful, small, creative, savy business woman is celebrating her 50th birthday?  What better way to celebrate the founder of Unity Stamp Co.’s special day than with FIVE birthday cards featuring the new “Layered Cake Builder” stamp set!  This fun new set is sure to brighten anyone’s day, just like Ang!!  So let’s party!

For these cards, I started by die cutting 5 card fronts using the stitched rectangle.  Next, using my stamping tool, I centered the cake stand toward the bottom.  Using the darkest color of red, I stamped the cake stand. I’ll use this same dark ink for the sentiment once I add the other layers.

Before I remove this piece, I’m going to take advantage of placement so that I can make a series of these cards.  Using the same placement, I stamped the cake stand using other dark inks.

Removing the cake stand stamp, and placing the next layer right above using a lighter color.  I found inks to make an ombre look, but you can definitely have fun with mixing and matching colors.  Oh, and there are some really fun patterns to use too!

Once I’m done with the layers of cake, I stamp the sentiment on top using the darkest color of each ink set.  I also die cut the scalloped piece and used that same dark color to ink up the edges and layer the card front using some foam tape. This allows for a perfect match!

For the last piece, I added some little embellishments to each of these cards, but this stamp set also comes with some patterned stamps that go over these layers perfectly to create fun and whimsical birthday card for anyone of any age!

It’s My Birthday!

Happy Friday and Happy Birthday to Unity!! This is Jules of Paper Gems by Jules here on the blog today. Can you believe they have been providing the highest quality stamps for a whopping 13 years?!  If you missed yesterday’s live, check it out on Facebook  because Angela, Whit and Nic are just so awesome and they so make you smile!

So today… we’re celebrating birthdays using the NEW Birthday Girl stamp set designed by Angie Blom!  This beautiful girl is ready for some cake and candles to celebrate another amazing year full of creativity!  And how do you add life to paper, shading and layers so check out how this girl comes to life for the party.

Step 1.  Stamp this image out three times.  I fussy cut the top layer (the girl), the second layer (the girl with the cake & the balloon – not seen in this pic) and the base which I cut at 4″ x 5.25″.

Step 2.  Next color the base layer;  I chose to shade the edges and color in the edges of the girl and the cake.  I did a test run of the balloon shadowing, but it’ll get covered.  I also adding a yellow glow around the candle lights, but it’ll be neater once the second layer is on.

Step 3.  Color in the birthday girl edges and the cake completely.  I did an ombre coloring of the cake using Unity’s teal color.  Using thin foam squares, I layered this piece.

Step 4.  I colored in this beautiful birthday girl and used more thin foam squares to adhere here to the second layer.  This ads so much dimension without lots of bulk.  (I forgot to take a pic of the second layer of the balloon, but you’ll see it in the final photo.)

Step 5.  I backed this piece on black card stock and adhered it to a white card base.  But at this angle you can see some of the dimension… and the balloon layer.  Add some sequins for a little bling, because every party needs some bling!
