Hey Cool Cats

September 9, 2022 - by Julissa Sargo

Welcome Home

Hey Unies!  This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules on the blog today showcasing the new My Happy Place stamp set.  This cozy chair & pillow set with sentiments is so fun for a new home card or thinking of you card and lots of other things.  I even made a bonus card that is just Spooktacular… so let’s settle in to some crafting!

For this first card, I kept it simple with some some colors that I’d love in my home.  Light rustic wood floors (patterned paper), subtle light teal wallpaper on an accent wall (Kindness is Magic Patterned Paper) and a cozy grey chair with some texture to it… and how do you give it texture when it’s just a stamp… check it out!

I started by coloring in the chair the way I would with any image.  I used the Toner Grey Copics to create the shadows.  Once done coloring, I stamped the Dance with Denim Background stamp over the chair using a grey ink.  This instantly give a denim texture to the sofa.  There are so many great samples of this… but here’s one that might “haunt” you! ????

Isn’t this spooktacular?!  For some reason, I was inspired to make something that Ozzy Osborne would have.  Coloring this with yellow oranges, I shaded the sofa as I would any other image.  Using the Hey Cool Cats Background stamp, I stamped that cool cheetah print onto the chair.  To get the richest black, I used VersaFine Onyx ink, but let it air dry.

For an added look, I stamped the same Hey Cool Cats Background onto black card stock using clear embossing powder to create a leopard wall paper look.  To keep with the theme, the pillow needed to be a little batty.  The stamp and sentiment are from the Spooktacular stamp set.

Isn’t it fun how you can change the whole vibe of this cozy chair with some simple stamping?!  What patterns will you make with this new set?

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you found some inspiration.  Until next time…

Happy Crafting!

Wearing Confidence

Hey there!  This is Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules back on the Unity Blog.  This Friday I’m sharing a more mature Valentine’s Day card for a significant other featuring the “Hey Cool Cats” background stamp, combined with “Wear Confidence” and “Interactive Verbiage.”  And the highlight is the super easy technique to make your background look like a cheetah.

I love this cheetah style background stamp, but it’s totally not limited to being a basic animal print.  It can be a white leopard or embossed.  The best is when you use it with neon colors like a vintage Lisa Frank trapper keeper (if you remember those).  But I wanted to make a valentine’s day card and opted to go for that simple animal print.  So I cut white card stock and did splotchy ink blending using Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge Distress Inks.

Once you feel good about this messy look, stamp the “Hey Cool Cats” background stamp using black Copic safe ink.  I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Then, with a dark brown marker, I used Copic E47, and just highlight some of the black spots.  This will add another element of color and depth to the background.  Once done, I put the the stamped image back into my Misti and stamped it with VersaFine Nocturne ink to give it the bold black look.

To create a scene, I stamped the polaroid from “Interactive Verbiage” using VersaMark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  I cut the exterior and interior of the polaroid and added the girl from the “Wear Confidence” Itty Bitty stamp set into the frame.  I made sure to color the flowers red to add some pop and lined her bodice with a copper gel pen.  Last, I added the sentiment “love you” using a die cut.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you found some inspiration for your Valentine… or even a Galentine card.  I’d love to see more of your Unity inspired Valentine’s Day cards so if you don’t mind… tag me when you post them!  (Facebook: @papergemsbyjules or Instagram: @papergemsbyjules)

Until next week… Happy Crafting!
