Love & Gentle Days Watercolor Card Making

Hello and welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn here. Watercolor card making is something I enjoy and want to do more of.  Today, I am sharing a lovely floral journal-themed card that was stamped and given a vintage look. The sentiment can be used for many occasions like birthdays, support, get well, thinking of you or just because.

The products featured are from the Love & Gentle Days stamp set. I have included the project steps, a video and supplies below. As always, embellish the stamps with supplies you may have on hand.

 

To begin, here is a look at the finished card.
Sentiment:  May the day meet you gently.

 

Helpful Tips:

  1. Precut and score a vertical white card base 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

  2. Stamp the journal flower and the sentiment onto different pieces of smooth watercolor paper.  Use waterproof black ink.

  3. Die-cut the stamped panel approximately 3 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ using Big Scallops & Rectangle dies

  4. Trim and layer the sentiment panel.

  5. Watercolor the stamped panel using a watercolor pan set and watercolor brushes. Detail the flowers. Then, add loose rustic watercolor around the flowers.

  6. Heat set between different watercolor sections.

  7. Once dry, add ink blending in coordinating colors around the floral stamping for a vintage look.

  8. Die-cut a scalloped frame panel approximately 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ from patterned paper.

  9. Layer and adhere the panels and twine onto the card base using foam tape, extra tacky tape or glue.

Watercolor Pencils Direct To Stamp Technique Autumn Leaves Cards

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn. Watercolor in card making is not as difficult as it may seem. Try the watercolor pencils direct to stamp technique. This is great to do using mixed media style stamps or solid stamps.

Both cards were made using the same process for the leaves. I used the Grunge Grove stamp set by Unity Stamp Company. See the full supply list linked below.

Sentiment:  Grateful for you this season.

Helpful Tips:

  1. Select your stamp and watercolor pencils. I used red rubber stamps. Have a spray mister handy and a stamp positioning tool like the Misti.

  2. Position the stamp inside the Misti or onto a stamp block.

  3. Lightly spritz a stamp with water. Color directly onto the stamp with watercolor pencils or watercolor crayons in your choice of colors. I used four colors, orange, yellow, purple and green.

  4. Lightly spritz again. Then stamp onto the watercolor cardstock. Allow imperfect blends of color. It will be different each time.

  5. Repeat as necessary for your preferred blend or pattern.

  6. Heat set.

  7. Optional: fussy cut the leaves.

  8. Adhere and layer over the card base. I show two layout options. The possibilities are endless for cards and tags.

Mini Art Journal Page Inspirational Words Flower Ink Blending

Hello there and welcome to the Unity blog.  I’m Gaylynn.  Add stamping with mixed media elements for a lovely mini art journal page. I included inspirational words, flower stamping and ink blending. The stamps offer a mix of mixed media elements that work perfectly with ink blending. I love the squiggly lines for the frame.

Helpful Tips

  1.  Select a mini art journal page or card panel.
  2. Stamp the large flower onto smooth white cardstock in blue or teal ink then stamp and die-cut the sentiment panel.
  3. Stamp the medium squiggly lines four times to make a frame around the flower bud, leaving room for the sentiment.
  4. Trim or die-cut the framed flower panel using square dies, plus die-cut a heart accent.
  5. For color, ink blend the flower using detailed blending brushes and ink blend the square panel in kraft and blue dye ink colors.
  6. Onto the 4×4 art journal page, ink blend around the edges using pink dye ink, then heat set.
  7. Layer and adhere it all to the art journal page or card front.

Art Journaling with Watercolor, Stamping & Mixed Media

Hello.  I’m Gaylynn and I am excited to share another creative post here on the Unity blog.  Today, I am sharing art journaling with watercolor, stamping and mixed media techniques. The focal point is the girl on a bicycle for a light and uplifting journal page. I used a mix of stamps and inks to make watercolor and stamp accents. I also enjoy bible journaling and canvas art. But today, I wanted to try out my new mini watercolor art journal spiral book.

I used the lovely rubber stamps by Unity Stamp Company for the girl, the sentiments and the background mixed media accents. The supplies and a video of the process are below.

Helpful Tips:

  1. Using watercolor cardstock, stamp the girl using waterproof ink.

  2. Stamp the sentiments.

  3. Trim or die-cut the girl and sentiments. I used banners or flag dies in different sizes.

  4. Onto a watercolor art journal page, add a watercolor wash in two shades, pink and teal.

  5. Splatter then dry completely.

  6. Using mixed media or text style stamps, partially stamp by hand around the edges of the watercolored journal page in kraft & black ink colors.

  7. Add watercolor to the girl panel in complementing colors. Heat set or leave to dry completely.

  8. Layer and adhere the girl and sentiments over the watercolor background, to finish.

Mixed Media with Magical {Bliss and Wonder}

Hi, Happy Thursday!

I’m here determined to master Mixed Media using Distress Spritz sprays and the gorgeous Magical bliss and wonder snowflake set. I’m all about using versatile Winter images where I can.

 

I grabbed some water-colour cardstock this time with my distress spritz sprays and already had much better luck than last week. Using the three colors above I spritzed until I had the background I was looking for. I then heat set it to stop the color from moving any further.

The blue and purple faded and the pink took over but I was happy with my results. I next use my embossing buddy all over my panel and go ready to stamp.

I stamped my images and heat embossed them in white. Hmmm not too sure about my sentiment standing out here. I also added some white splatters.

Almost done. I decided I wanted it to be a tag to go on a wine bottle or card front so I grabbed my   make a tag dies and cut it out. Such great dies!

Some enamel dots and now I am done! I love the lace look snowflakes in this set and use it through the Winter season. I decided to emboss in white the sentiment to make it pop further. I love how this turned out!

Let’s Create a Fall Tag | Mixed Media Thursday

Hello Unity Friends!  I am excited to be back today to share a fall inspired tag using the beautiful Love Never Leaves stamp set as my focal images for this week’s project!  I shared a handmade tag last week using these beautiful leaves and I wanted to create another project with them!  So let’s get started!

I started by stamping the leaves onto Hot Press Watercolor paper.  I added the leaves to my stamping platform and colored the leaves using Distress watercolor pencils.  I dipped the pencils into water, then added the color directly to the stamp.  I then spritzed the stamp with my water bottle and stamped the images.  I continued to repeat this process using a variety of colors.  Once the leaves were complete, I allowed them to dry completely, then fussy cut the leaves.  I then added distress ink to the edges and set them aside.

Next I started to work on my tag background. I started by stamping along the tag using the Reversed Punchinella and the Let it Go and Focus stamp set.  Next I inked the background using a combination of Distress Oxide Inks, Distress Inks, as well as sprays.  I continued to build color and texture using a variety of inks.  Once the background was complete, I added additional texture using a stencil and paste.  I allowed everything to completely dry.

Next I started to to adhere both the ephemera and leaves onto the card front.  I used a combination of liquid glue and foam tape.  I then added additional splatters using white acrylic paint.  I completed the tag using a sentiment from the Autumn Dictionary Words.

Let’s create a circle shaped tag | Mixed Media Thursday

Hello Unity friends, it is Natasha back on the blog today to share a circle shaped tag!  I love creating a variety of projects and this project was inspired by my dear friend Loralee!  I recently saw a post of hers where she created a circle shaped tag and I was so excited to try it! For today’s project I am using the beautiful set Love Never Leaves.  So let’s get started!

I started by placing my stamps in my stamp positioning tool.  I then colored the stamps with my Distress watercolor pencils.  I add water to my pencils then directly color on the stamp.  I then add water to the stamp using my water bottle, then stamp the image.  I repeat this process several times until I have the colors I am looking for.

Once the images were completely stamped, I fussy cut the leaves and set them aside.  Next I started to work on my circle tag.  I used 2 panels to create the circle tag.  I used a gelli print and a piece of pattern paper from the Fall Y’All paper pad.  I used circle dies to die cut 2 circles.  I adhered them together with liquid glue.  On the smaller circle I added 2 pieces of torn paper from the gelli print.

Next I adhered the leaves using a combination of liquid glue and foam tape.  I added a piece of cheesecloth as well for added texture.  I completed the project with a sentiment from the Autumn Dictionary Words, as well as a twine bow and sequins.
